It’s been a month since we first saw a glimpse of the Steam Frame, which appeared as a “Great on Frame” page on the Steam store. This was followed by Portal 2 receiving an official Steam Frame compatibility rating. Valve didn’t stop there; they’re still working to expand the library of compatible games. Right now, the list includes 89 games (and counting, as Steam continues to add more titles).
Even as the list of compatible games grows, Valve has yet to announce an official release date for the Steam Frame. The developers behind the VR game Gunman Contracts – Stand Alone said on their Discord server that “it was just around the corner”. But so far, Valve has remained silent on the matter. Valve’s 30th anniversary is on 24th <a href="https://comicvibe.com/new-netflix-shows-and-movies-in-august-2026/” title=”New Netflix Shows and Movies in August 2026″>August, so we may see an announcement that day.
While the Steam Frame is a VR headset, Valve’s compatibility list isn’t limited to VR games. If the game maintains acceptable performance, supports the Frame’s controllers, and launches on SteamOS (Proton or natively), Valve will add it to the compatibility list.
As per Valve’s compatibility criteria for the Steam Frame, 2D games “must run at a minimum of 30 FPS at 1280×720 during normal play”. For VR games, Valve states that the VR game “must run at a minimum of 72 FPS at 1728×1728 during normal play”. Speaking of VR games, if you’re planning to get the Steam Frame and looking to stock up your Steam Library with VR games, these are 10 highly-rated games (not in order) that you should consider grabbing:
3. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
9. The Room VR: A Dark Matter
10. The“I Expect You to Die”Duology
With a compatibility page and criteria now available, the Steam Frame’s release now seems relatively imminent. Only this month was the startup movie leaked, and only this week were the official unboxing and setup guide videos also leaked online.
