Venom creators past and present will revisit Eddie Brock’s origin story from his point-of-view this winter, in Venom: POV, a five-issue series written by Ryan Stegman (the 2018-21 Venom run), with art by Carlos Gomez (All-New Venom). The book will revisit Eddie Brock’s early, villainous life, when the disgraced reporter joined forces with the symbiote Spider-Man rejected to take revenge on the wallcrawler.

Stegman comments, “For anyone of my generation, this story was as exciting as it gets. However, it did leave a lot of questions about Eddie that needed answering… Hope I can make that happen!” The artist-turned-writer’s previous scripting credits includes Marvel titles like Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows, and creator-owned books like the DSTLRY series The Missionary.
The comic’s release coincides with Brock’s unnamed, retroactive first appearance in 1986’s Web of Spider-Man #18 (by David Michelinie, Marc Silvestri, and Kyle Baker), where Peter Parker is shoved onto a train track by an unseen attacker, leaving him greatly confused about why he wasn’t alerted to this by his Spider-Sense. Brock subsequently made his first full appearance in 1988’s Amazing Spider-Man #300, four years after the symbiote’s debut in issue #252.
Issue #1 will be released on December 2, with a main cover by Stegman. In the meantime the main Venom comic will be relaunched with Charles Soule and Tommaso Bianchi on October 14, while Gomez and Al Ewing‘s run will conclude with issue #262 on September 30 (the same day as Queen in Black, and the tie-in series Venom Unchained, will also end).
