AMC has renewed Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire for a fourth season, and it arrives wearing a new name: Anne Rice’s Queen of the Damned. The network confirmed the pickup on July 24, 2026 during its Comic-Con Hall H panel for The Vampire Lestat, according to AMC’s announcement, with executive producers Mark Johnson and Hannah Moscovitch joined onstage by Jacob Anderson, Assad Zaman, Eric Bogosian, and Sheila Atim. The news landed five days after the Season 3 finale aired on July 19, 2026. (Fair warning: spoilers for that finale follow.)

A New Book, A New Name

The title swap is a pattern now rather than a one-off. AMC ran Seasons 1 and 2 under the name of Rice’s first novel, Interview with the Vampire, rechristened the third season The Vampire Lestat after her second book, and has handed Season 4 the name of the third. As Inverse observed in its finale coverage, the show keeps rebranding itself after the next book in Rice’s Vampire Chronicles, so every season takes the title of the installment it adapts.

I like the honesty of it. Rice left behind a whole library, and the show is treating each volume as its own movement instead of blurring the saga into one indistinct “vampire show.” The approach also sets expectations. Anyone who watched Louis narrate his grief through the Season 2 finale knew a change was coming, and the naming convention now tells us in advance which perspective, and which crisis, each year will chase. Queen of the Damned promises the arrival of the character her title names.

A New Voice Behind The Camera

The bigger story hides in the credits. Hannah Moscovitch takes over as showrunner and executive producer on Queen of the Damned, while creator Rolin Jones, who ran Seasons 1 through 3, stays on as an executive producer alongside Moscovitch and Johnson, per Variety and AMC’s July 24 release.

This is not a stranger stepping in. AMC’s announcement notes that Moscovitch wrote on the first two seasons and, on The Vampire Lestat, authored the Akasha and Gabriella characters specifically. She also wrote the Season 2 premiere, the episode that reintroduced Claudia with a new actor and pushed Louis and Armand’s romance to center stage. Moscovitch is a playwright first, the winner of the 2021 Governor General’s Award for English-language drama for Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes. That theatrical instinct matters for a saga this dialogue-heavy and this obsessed with unreliable narration. Handing her Akasha, a character she already built, is the sort of continuity that should reassure fans nervous about a showrunner handoff.

    The Queen Takes Center Stage

Season 3 spent its run on Lestat’s confessional rock spectacle, all glam and grievance. Season 4 points somewhere colder and larger. Sheila Atim debuted Akasha, “The Great Mother,” in The Vampire Lestat Episode 5, “New York,” and the finale ended on a decimated skyline that all but signed her name to the wreckage. In our review of The Vampire Lestat finale, we flagged how that cliffhanger teased the war still to come.

The shift in scale is the interesting part. Rice’s mythology has Lestat’s music rouse Akasha from her long sleep, and a reawakened queen trades the New Orleans parlor for a campaign to erase most of vampire-kind in what the books call the Great Conversion, per Inverse. Chief content officer Dan McDermott framed the stakes in AMC’s release, promising the show’s characters will “confront Akasha with their world, and ours, very much hanging in the balance.” The confessional intimacy that defined Louis’s story gives way to something apocalyptic.

    Final Thoughts

No premiere date exists yet, which is its own kind of vampire patience. What we have is a renewal, a new title, a new showrunner who already knows the queen at the center, and a finale that pointed straight at the fire. I am cautiously thrilled. The risk is real, because Queen of the Damned is the book where Rice’s story tips from character study into full mythology, and that is a hard tonal jump to land. If Moscovitch can keep the human ache that made the first three seasons hurt while opening the story up to a world-ending scale, this could be the most ambitious chapter yet. Wake me when the tour bus turns into an army.
