Disney’s biennial fan convention D23 is underway in Anaheim, California, and the entertainment giant hosted a star-studded entertainment showcase to unveil all upcoming movies and streaming shows, as well as trailers and sneak peeks of the ones we already know about.

Along with Frozen 3, The Incredibles 3, the Marvel reveals and all the Star Wars news, here are the biggest surprises and everything else announced on Friday night.

The Bluey movie: a keepy uppy teaser

A short teaser has finally been showcased for the upcoming feature film extension of the beloved Australian children’s show Bluey.

The brief trailer showed 3D-animated versions of Bluey and her sister Bingo playing their keepy-uppy game, bouncing a balloon between each other until it hit the grass and they ran out of sight.

The teaser was very short, but the Bluey movie will be released a year from now, in August 2027.

Creator Joe Brumm is stepping down from his role following the release of the movie, so for now, rewatching the first three seasons and the minisodes on Disney Plus is all we’ve got for the next year.

    Zootopia 3 flies onto screens

    Zootopia 3 was announced at Disney’s D23 streaming keynote.Corinne Reichert/CNET

It was a big day for Disney threequels as the third installment of the Zootopia franchise was a surprise announcement, coming less than a year after Zootopia 2 was released.

Birds will be the new addition to Zootopia 3, with a teaser showing a feather floating on the breeze through the animal-inhabited metropolis.

Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps and Ke Huy Quan as Gary De’Snake are confirmed to be returning for the third Zootopia movie.

    Coco 2 announced

Coco 2 was announced at D23 and is scheduled to come out in Nov. 2029.Corinne Reichert/CNET

A sequel to the hugely popular 2017 Pixar film Coco was announced, with main character Miguel now a teenager, still playing music and still battling the former hero-turned-villain Ernesto de la Cruz.

Coco 2 will hit the big screen in November 2029.

Kingdom Hearts IV release date and series

The Coco announcement also served as a segue into a trailer and release date for the fourth Kingdom Hearts game (late 2027), with Miguel’s world being added to the beloved franchise when it comes out.

Plus, a Kingdom Hearts cartoon series will be coming to Disney Plus “soon.”

    First look at live-action Tangled

Kathryn Hahn gave a sneak peek of the live-action version of the Disney film Tangled during the D23 streaming keynote.Corinne Reichert/CNET

We got a brief teaser showing Teagan Croft as live-action Rapunzel, Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider and Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel, all in full costume.

Hahn, who thanked fans for manifesting her as the Tangled villain, appeared on stage at D23, introducing a video of Manheim and Croft detailing some of the filming locations across Spain where the movie is being shot, including monasteries and cathedrals.

Tangled will be released on March 31, 2028.

Percy Jackson season 3 gets a trailer

Ahead of its Nov. 20 release, Percy Jackson and the Olympians got a fresh, new trailer. Walker Scobell (Percy Jackson) was joined on stage by Ming-Na Wen (Hera) and Andra Day (Athena) to show off the new trailer.

Season 3 adapts the book The Titan’s Curse, and shows Percy fighting underwater and in arenas as a titan emerges.

Pixar’s Gatto trailers show a cat among the pigeons

Two trailers for the Pixar film Gatto were seen at the D23 streaming keynote, with the movie scheduled to come out on March 5, 2027.Corinne Reichert/CNET

Pixar’s next animated feature film, Gatto, features a little black cat voiced by Mark Ruffalo. Set in Venice, Italy, with the same filmmakers behind Luca, Nero the cat makes a pigeon friend who helps him escape the clutches of mob boss Rocco (Laurence Fishburne).

The pigeon gives him a bird’s-eye view of a Venetian square, and what obstacles to avoid or use to his advantage when attempting to close in on a violinist street performer.

A second trailer was shown, with Gatto, Rocco and dozens of other stray cats roaming the streets of Venice — which Gatto describes as “a sinking death trap” — and stealing fish.

Gatto will be released on March 5, 2027.

    The New Simpsons Movie

The New Simpsons Movie had a very rough, sketched teaser shown at Disney’s D23 streaming keynote. Corinne Reichert/CNET

Season 38 of The Simpsons is about to kick off next month, but everyone’s favorite yellow cartoon family is also getting a second movie — two decades after the release of the first.

A “very rough” teaser was showcased during Disney’s biennial fan convention D23 in Anaheim on Friday night, featuring concept art sketches of Homer and his friends at a Springfield Isotopes baseball game.

Details are scant, but it looks like the Simpsons family and their friends will be back to their usual hijinks. The sketches showed Homer and all the beloved characters of the show rush to catch a ball as it bounced around all of Springfield before it got shot back to the stadium, where it landed right in front of Bart.

The New Simpsons Movie will be released on Sept. 3, 2027.

    Hexed cast and trailer

A new Disney animated movie, Hexed, is coming soon.Corinne Reichert/CNET

Disney animated feature Hexed, which stars Hailee Steinfeld in the title role of teenager Billie who discovers she’s a witch, got a trailer and new casting news just months before it comes out on Thanksgiving weekend.

Steinfeld was joined on stage by Walton Goggins, who voices a three-eyed cat named Beef, and Jodie Foster, who voices the queen of witches.

The new trailer showed Billie getting sucked inside a crescent moon-shaped portal to a secret realm of magic, filled with spellbooks, talking objects, a magical forest and a coven of witches.

Ice Age: Boiling Point trailer – squirrels in lava

Queen Latifah and Denis Leary appeared at Disney’s D23 keynote to introduce another film in the Ice Age franchise.Corinne Reichert/CNET

Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie and Peaches are back in a sixth theatrical Ice Age movie.

Queen Latifah (the voice of mammoth Ellie) and Dennis Leary (who voices saber-tooth tiger Diego) appeared on stage to introduce the first trailer for Ice Age: Boiling Point.

“We’re finishing up the movie right now, and it’s really funny, and it’s scary,” Leary said.

The trailer showed squirrel Scrat and Baby Scrat pushing an acorn into the ice once more, but this time with the acorn falling through into the lava boiling below. Scrat rides the acorn through a sea of lava until an enormous prehistoric squirrel grabs the prize at the end.

The trailer briefly shows Manny, Sid and Ellie exploring a jungle-like setting nearby.

Original Ice Age animator Blue Sky Studios was acquired by Disney in 2019 and shut down and absorbed five years ago. A short series featuring Scrat and Baby Scrat was released on Disney Plus in 2022.

Ice Age: Boiling Point will hit the big screen in less than a year, on Feb. 5, 2027.

    Oswald miniseries on Disney Plus

Director and MCU godfather Jon Favreau appeared at Disney’s D23 streaming keynote to introduce Oswald, a limited miniseries coming to Disney Plus.Corinne Reichert/CNET

Disney director and producer Jon Favreau introduced his passion project, Oswald — an original character created by Walt Disney 100 years ago — that will air as a three-part miniseries on Disney Plus next year.

“We only used hand-drawn 2D animation for Oswald,” Favreau said, adding that many old Disney animators were brought back to work on the project.

In a Roger Rabbit-esque series, Oswald will feature live-action settings, including Walt’s old office in Burbank and at Disneyland, where the 2D-animated Oswald runs around and explores the real world.

Clay, a new Disney animated film

Clay will be the next original Disney animated feature film.Corinne Reichert/CNET

Clay will be released in 2028.

    Pixar’s Ghost Market

A mysterious new Pixar feature film called Ghost Market (which the teaser said would be about “hungry ghosts”) will be released in spring 2028.

Lilo and Stitch 2: live action

The Lilo and Stitch 2 live-action movie is announced.Corinne Reichert/CNET
