“Law Practice Goes Far Beyond The Courtroom” — Rangers CEO Amobi Ezeaku Urges Young Lawyers To Explore Sports, Technology, AI At OBRA Legal LP

The Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Rangers International Football Club, Amobi Ezeaku, has urged aspiring and young lawyers to look beyond traditional courtroom practice and explore opportunities in sports, entertainment, technology, health, artificial intelligence, robotics and other emerging areas of law.

Ezeaku made the call during an interactive session with interns at OBRA Legal LP, where he shared lessons from his professional journey, leadership experience and work within the sports industry.

The engagement formed part of the fifth day of the internship programme organised by OBRA Legal LP and the OBRA Foundation, aimed at exposing participants to the diverse opportunities available within and outside conventional legal practice.

During the session, Ezeaku emphasised that the legal profession offers significantly broader opportunities than litigation and courtroom advocacy, encouraging participants to identify areas that align with their interests and deliberately build expertise in them.

According to reflections shared after the session, one of the major lessons was that lawyers could build successful careers across sectors such as sports and entertainment, technology, healthcare and emerging fields including artificial intelligence and robotics.

Ezeaku also stressed the importance of passion, intentionality, sacrifice, courage and excellence, noting that these qualities often distinguish professionals who are merely good from those who become exceptional.

Speaking on leadership, the Rangers International chief executive said leadership must be appropriate to the environment and people being led.

“Leadership must reflect the field you represent and it is a divine thing, and divinity is a humanitarian thing,” he said.

He also cautioned young professionals against becoming complacent after recording an achievement, arguing that success in one area should not become a reason to stop developing or pursuing greater goals.

According to him, individuals must continue challenging themselves and striving for improvement throughout their lives rather than treating a single accomplishment as the end of their journey.

Ezeaku further encouraged the interns to develop courage and independent thinking, advising them to be fearless, trust their instincts, ask questions and form their own informed opinions.

He equally stressed humility and the importance of having a spiritual foundation or belief system capable of providing direction through difficult periods.

The session also highlighted the role of sacrifice and resilience in building a meaningful professional career, with Ezeaku’s own journey presented as an example of how deliberate choices and commitment to excellence can open opportunities beyond conventional career paths.

One of the interns who reflected on the session described Ezeaku as detail-oriented and said the engagement had provided a practical perspective on professional development and the possibilities available to lawyers.

The intern said the session reinforced the belief that professional success could not be achieved by strength alone, citing the biblical principles, “For by strength shall no man prevail,” and “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

The participant described the engagement as an insightful and practical learning experience and expressed appreciation to OBRA Legal LP and the OBRA Foundation for providing the opportunity.

The internship programme has continued to expose participants to professionals from different sectors, with the sessions designed to broaden their understanding of how legal knowledge, leadership, innovation and professional skills can be applied beyond traditional legal practice.
