If you’ve ever piloted the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy at Disney’s Hollywood Studiosor Disneyland, your spaceflight missions are about to follow you straight into your living room.
In one of the most unexpected physical-to-digital announcements to come out of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney and Epic Games revealed a brand-new crossover linking Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run directly with Fortnite.
The initiative debuts alongside Smuggler’s Gambit, a new Star Wars Creative island in Fortnite developed in close partnership with Lucasfilm.
Reporting on the ground from the D23 presentation, Dani Meyering ofAttractions Magazine broke down the ambitious mechanics behind the project, noting that “Fortnite is about to connect directly with Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, allowing something guests accomplish aboard the Millennium Falcon at Disney’s theme parks to follow them home into the video game”.
How the Ride-to-Game Rewards Work
Guests waiting in line for Smugglers Run can now link their MyDisney account to their Epic Games profile inside the official Disney parks mobile app.
Once connected, riders unlock an enhanced bonus mode aboard the attraction. As Meyering detailed from Disney’s presentation, “the experience includes a special mission briefing from Hondo Ohnaka, additional secrets inside the Falcon’s cockpit and crates that crews can collect during their mission”.
The rewards don’t stop when your flight ends. Cargo and loot collected inside the physical theme park cockpit convert into digital rewards in Fortnite, including an exclusive Forsworn Trooper outfit and in-game credits to upgrade gear in the Smuggler’s Gambit island.
Even better for competitive gamers: Disney confirmed that progression and milestones achieved while playing at home will help boost your score when you return to ride the attraction in person.
The Future of Theme Park Storytelling
While other entertainment destinations are bringing video games to life by building physical lands, Disney is taking a two-way interactive approach.
As Meyering highlighted, Disney described the crossover as a “full circle physical-to-digital connection” and an early preview of larger plans to bridge real-world park memories with immersive home gaming.
For vacationing families and gaming fans alike, your next cockpit run on Batuu is officially more than just a ride—it is the start of your next gaming quest.
