Disney+ has decided not to move forward with a new Power Rangers series.

The streamer put in a new live-action adaptation of the popular show into development in March 2025, with the showrunners of Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

However, a new report says they are passing on the show

Power Rangers is not due to the creative, but rather the cost of putting on the series

“Mounting a high-end, live-action superhero series of the caliber of Power Rangers is a major investment,” Deadline says. “The economics of which are not as favorable when the streamer and/or the producing studio do not own the IP.”

The Power Rangers franchise is owned by Hasbro, which has reportedly been trying to bring it back to the screen.

The last time a live-action Power Rangers series was on screen was Power Rangers: Dino Fury on Netflix in 2021, which was then rebranded to Power Rangers: Cosmic Fury for its third and final season in 2023.

In Cosmic Fury, the Pink Ranger became the Red Ranger, marking a historic first for the franchise. There has never been a full-time female Red Ranger until then!

Netflix also released Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always, bringing back some of the original Power Rangers stars.
