Twitch has introduced an opt-out setting that lets streamers stop their channel content from being used to train Amazon’s generative AI models.

On the official Twitch website, the new opt-out policy was explained. It was also explained that turning off the training for generative AI features “does not opt you out of Twitch and Amazon using your channel content for other purposes described in the Twitch Privacy Notice, including using AI-supported Twitch features that benefit the community by facilitating streamer growth and monetization.”

The FAQ section provides more details as to why you cannot opt out of all AI uses at Twitch. It explains that you only control whether AI can help you create content or grow your channel. However, other AI on the platform works differently. For example, the AutoMod feature in chat cannot be turned off, as it protects the community at large.

“Turning those off for one person would weaken safety and security for everyone else on the platform, so they are not individual settings.”

Additionally, they explain which types of channel content are eligible for use in Amazon’s generative AI training.

Your stream and the stream’s chat, your VODs, your Clips, Highlights, and any text or images on your Channel may be used. If you chat on someone else’s stream, their opt-out preferences govern if that chat can be used for training.

The topic of generative AI continues to be a major one in gaming and all of technology. For example, PlayStation continues to believe that generative AI will power its future game development.
