Epic Games continues to build hype for the next phase of Fortnite: Chapter 7, Season 4, which will kick off in mid-August 2026. With a theme centered on retro video games, major icons like Sonic the Hedgehog himself couldn’t be left out. But watch out, because it doesn’t end there: in addition to the teaser featuring Sega’s blue hedgehog, other clues have emerged hinting at the arrival of other major franchises from the Japanese company in the battle royale, such as Like a Dragon/Yakuza and Persona.
Sega is pulling out all the stops for the new season of Fortnite: Sonic is confirmed… and Yakuza and Persona too?
Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 will begin on August 20, and as is customary in the days leading up to the arrival of each new season of the game, both Epic Games and the brands involved in the upcoming collaborations are releasing all kinds of teasers to build anticipation. One of these came from Sonic’s official X account, which shared a short teaser showing a recreation of the Green Hill Zone from the original game within Fortnite, with Peely running like the blue hedgehog around a loop, while also confirming a new legendary item in the game that will let players gain Sonic’s powers.

Although it hasn’t been officially announced yet, the Fortnite datamining and leak community has already confirmed that Sonic himself would be arriving as an outfit during the new season. Given this unexpected reveal—which has been well-received by fans of the Sega mascot—everything points to him being part of the Battle Pass and possibly being joined in the future by several of his friends, such as Tails and Knuckles. It’s worth noting, however, that his proportions will likely be stylized so that the character model fits within the standardized hitboxes for the more than 1,000 different outfits currently available in the game.
But this isn’t the only Sega-related surprise included in Fortnite’s new season. Through an intriguing alternate-reality game on Sega’s official Discord server, several fans have noticed that certain phrases accepted by a Fortnite bot as “correct passwords” directly reference other beloved Sega franchises. For example, “Take Your Heart” is the slogan for Persona 5, so Joker—the game’s protagonist—would be coming to the game as a new outfit. Another accepted keyword is “Dojima’s Dragon,” which clearly refers to Kazuma Kiryu, the Dragon of Dojima from the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series, who would also be arriving as an outfit in Fortnite C7S4.

In any case, both Epic Games and Sega are working on a mutually beneficial collaboration, and we’ll have to wait just a few more days to see its true scope. For now, the only certainty is the mythical item that lets us momentarily transform into the legendary blue hedgehog who first appeared 35 years ago on the Mega Drive, but only time will tell if it will also be accompanied by the highly anticipated Sonic outfit and the new skins for Kiryu Kazuma and Joker. In any case, Fortnite continues to prove that at this point nothing is impossible, and that, if the arrival of these great video game icons is confirmed, they’ll feel right at home among so many other legends like Halo’s Master Chief or Kratos from God of War, who have been available in Epic’s game for several years now.
