In late May, Harry Potter finally received an adaptation that many fans probably thought already existed: Monopoly. Hasbro, the publisher of the ubiquitous board game, has partnered with nearly every major movie and TV series, but Harry Potter isn’t one of them. Surprisingly, we know. But now fans no longer have to create custom versions of Monopoly in the wizarding world, Monopoly: Harry Potter Edition is on sale for the first time at Amazon, bringing the price down to $32 for Prime members (regularly $40).
When Amazon sells out (the retailer is nearly sold out as of July 19 at 2:15 p.m. PT) Get Monopoly: Harry Potter Edition at Walmart for $33. Plus, you don’t need a membership to take advantage of Walmart’s deals.
Like other Monopoly reskins, this version retains the core rules and gameplay of the original board game, but is remixed with characters, locations, and art from the Harry Potter series. Player creations now include the Hogwarts Express, the Double Decker Knight Bus, the Firebolt Broomstick, Hagrid’s Motorbike, the Hippogriff and the Nightstrider. Paper money is replaced by points earned for the Hogwarts house the player was assigned to at the start of the game. From there, it plays out like your usual game of Monopoly, with players claiming ownership of locations like the Hogwarts Quidditch Pitch, Dumbledore’s Office, and Hogsmeade Station.

While the Harry Potter series remains popular, its creator and author of the original novels, J.K. Rowling, has tainted the series in recent years with its hateful, anti-trans views. Rowling was not directly involved in the creation of Monopoly: Harry Potter Edition or other board games, but she benefits financially from merchandise sales. Our article on how Rowling’s comments impacted the trans community provides more information on her history of anti-trans bias.
