Comic book culture celebrated through creativity, imagination and self-expression in Dublin.
The Convention Centre Dublin is transformed into a colourful world of superheroes, sidekicks, blockbuster stars and cult comic book characters. Many of the elaborate costumes on display take weeks, and sometimes months, of dedication and craft to create.
The event has grown dramatically since 2012, when 4,000 people attended the first Dublin Comic Con. Just four years later, organisers expect crowds of more than 20,000.
Organiser Karl Walsh says the festival appeals to those who have never lost their love of comics, films and fantasy worlds. While most attendees arrive dressed as their favourite characters, some of the stars who inspired them are also on hand. Among them is German actor Tom Wlaschiha, best known for playing Jaqen H’ghar in Game of Thrones. He says Comic Con provides a unique opportunity to connect with fans face to face.
