The Chaires-Capitola All-Stars have already won a national championship. Today the “Green Machine” from Tallahassee begins an even greater quest, one it hopes ends in Williamsport at the 2026 Little League World Series.
Representing Florida for the first time, Chaires Little League opens its run at the LLWS Southeast regional tournament today against the boys from Columbus, Georgia. Whoever comes out on top from the field of eight state champions will go on to the 20-team main event in two weeks.
Ten of the 12 boys on the Chaires roster were part of the 11U team that last year won the Tournament of State Champions, the biggest event at that level of Little League baseball. They won all four games of the Florida state tournament, including an impressive 6-0 win in the title game over Lake Mary, the three-time defending state champion that won the entire 2024 Little League World Series.
Their opponents today, Columbus American Little League, also went 4-0 in their state tournament. The Georgia team outscored their opposition 38-7.
Win or lose, Chaires will get another game Friday, Aug. 7 against either Irmo, South Carolina or Shady Spring, West Virginia. Last year, Irmo upset Lake Mary in the championship game to reach the LLWS.
