“Just. Make. Bombs. Go. Boom.” – Helldivers 2’s 500KG bomb is back on the frontline after recent order

While they’re still busy with their latest big mission, a recent order for Helldiver 2 has brought criticism of the Eagle 500KG bomb back into the spotlight. Why? Well, because it still barely kills anything that’s not within the center of its blast.

Hey, if nothing else, the fact that we’re back to talking about a strategy that people have long wanted to change may mean that Arrowhead is finally starting to collect data to help make that happen. Additionally, this means there is a limited amount of discussion about the idea of splitting an enemy army in two and whether that is a tactic that would drive Sun Tzu crazy.

Arrowhead has been doing a lot lately that requires people to kill a bunch of things with different weapons, a recent example being that it requires players to kill 200 enemies with a 500kg bomb via personal command. Obviously, you don’t have to execute every one of these commands, since all they do is give you a few extra medals for your trouble, but those who aren’t too happy find that the device still doesn’t do what they want it to do.

As players have been saying in April, this is all about providing a damage radius that matches its nature as a giant bomb, unleashing a massive blast of force. The problem is that it only seems to deal a lot of damage to a relatively small area at the center of the explosion, making it work more like a precision missile than a bomb in the eyes of some players.

While there’s some debate over what exactly caused it – such as the theory that the bomb may have had a cone-shaped area of impact, and that it was more easily blocked by terrain than it should have been, following some amateur testing under the latest orders – there still doesn’t appear to be a consensus. Well, except for the fact that players don’t think they’re consistently getting enough of the blast, even though the bombs are still very effective at killing Helldivers who don’t escape fast enough.

“Currently the 500kg is only useful for destroying buildings and Titans, and may not even be reliable for the latter,” one player wrote. “I don’t see why it should be slower than Orbital Precision Strike (OPS), as it is currently Most things are better the way OPS does it, even if [the] 500kg can theoretically cause more damage. Make. bomb. go. Prosperity.

The good news some are hoping for is that the order will provide Arrowhead with more data on the bombs, which it might use to improve what it offers, assuming the studio isn’t satisfied with where it currently fits. library.

Is the 500KG bomb conversion still at the top of your to-do list at Arrowhead? Let us know below.
