Fans will be disappointed to hear the latest update on Booster Gold, the DCU series that was in development at DC Studios. After James Gunn announced it in 2023, fans waited over two years for an encouraging update earlier this year. However, it appears the happiness won’t last long, as Booster Gold appears to have been officially canceled, or at least put on hold.
Taking to Threads, Booster Gold writer David Jenkins said that his “Booster Gold won’t be moving forward.” At the time of writing, neither DC Studios nor HBO has commented on the matter. Jenkins’ wording suggests that while his version of the show won’t move forward, HBO could potentially pick up another iteration from other creatives.
How far David Jenkins got developing his DC television project before it stalled
Jenkins was hired to write the series last year and handed in the script for the pilot episode in June. The writer previously created Our Flag Means Death and People of Earth. It’s not the first DC series that has been stuck since its announcement. Previously, DC Studios planned to release Waller before Peacemaker season 2, but the series remains in development.
DC Studios continues to develop other projects set in the DC Universe. The studio is currently developing Paradise Lost, Waller, Creature Commandos season 2, and will release Lanterns in the immediate future. The studio also plans to shoot a Jimmy Olsen/Gorilla Grodd spin-off series soon, despite facing a major obstacle after casting Jimmy Tatro as the villainous gorilla.
Besides TV shows, DC will release Clayface in theaters later this year and will follow it up with Man of Tomorrow in 2027.
It remains to be seen whether DC Studios will eventually revive Booster Gold in near future.
