A fan-favorite Marvel TV show won’t be returning for another season. Disney+ has reportedly canceled Wonder Man just months after announcing its Season 2 renewal. The decision came despite the series receiving glowing reviews following its debut earlier this year.
This live-action series premiered in January 2026 and was renewed for a second season in March. A fresh update reveals that this plan has now been scrapped. According to Variety, Season 2 is no longer moving forward. According to the report, no writers’ room was ever formed, and the series’ writers were released to work on other projects. Disney has not provided a reason for the cancellation.
Wonder Man was created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest. It starred Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams and Ben Kingsley as Trevor Slattery. Other cast members included X Mayo, Demetrius Grosse, Zlatko Buric, Arian Moayed, and Oli
The show received positive reviews and holds a 91% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. Abdul-Mateen was also nominated for an Emmy. Disney did not reveal viewership figures for it. However, the show reached No. 8 on Nielsen’s Top 10 Originals chart.
Wonder Man Season 2’s Disney+ cancellation does have a silver lining
Even though Wonder Man won’t get another season, that doesn’t mean the story will end there. According to the report, Marvel Studios could still use the show’s characters in future MCU projects. That makes it possible for Simon Williams, Trevor Slattery, and other characters to continue their stories elsewhere in the MCU.
The cancellation is unusual, especially for Marvel Television. Most Marvel Studios series on Disney+ are designed as limited series, with only a few exceptions. Shows like Loki have received two seasons, whereas Daredevil: Born Again has already been renewed for a third season. Marvel has also expanded WandaVision with spin-offs such as Agatha All Along and the upcoming Vision Quest.
