Epic Games has added a new Mythic companion called the John Wick Sprite to Fortnite, tying it to the returning Simpsons-themed Reload map that launched on Thursday, July 30. Rather than a single fixed method, players have four separate ways to pick it up once they land in Springfield.
Four Ways to Unlock the John Wick Sprite
According to details shared by Fortnite leak tracker HYPEX and corroborated by outlet reporting, the Sprite can be obtained by using the new Reload Portable Extractor gadget to extract it from an eliminated player who was carrying one, finding it in standard or Sprite Chests, or simply winning a match. There is no pencil sketching or crafting minigame involved — it behaves like Fortnite’s other Sprite pickups, just with an extra elimination-based extraction option layered on top.
One quirk worth noting for anyone hunting a high-level copy: the John Wick Sprite retains whatever level it had when acquired, whether that’s Level 1 or a higher level, if a previous player had already levelled it up. That makes the “eliminate a carrier” route potentially the fastest shortcut if you can find someone who has already been building it up in a match.
What the Mythic Sprite Actually Does
The appeal isn’t cosmetic. The Sprite reveals nearby enemies to players and their squad for a few seconds after they knock or eliminate an opponent, effectively functioning as a short-range intel burst that can turn one kill into information for a whole team fight. For a mode built around fast third-partying and tight Reload circles, that kind of enemy-reveal window is a meaningful edge.
The Mythic variant also comes with a progression perk baked in: the John Wick Sprite can be equipped in Reload, where it is currently the only Sprite available in the mode, and it can be equipped in Battle Royale once obtained. In other words, grabbing it inside a Reload match effectively unlocks it as a standing option for regular Battle Royale drops afterwards, not just a one-match novelty.
Springfield Returns Alongside a Simpsonified John Wick Skin
The Sprite is only one half of the John Wick tie-in. Players can unlock a “Simpsonified John Wick” as a bonus reward starting July 30, but only if they own the Battle Pass and finish the required Reload quests. That mirrors GosuGamers’ reporting that John Wick appears as both a Simpsons-styled Outfit and the separate Sprite companion, with the Outfit requiring players to complete Reload quests and own the Battle Pass.
The crossover brings the cartoon-styled Springfield map back into rotation for Reload, alongside a refreshed loot pool. Reporting on the update notes the returning loot pool includes items such as the Cartoon Chainsaw, Krusty Burger, Super Squishee, Mr. Blasty Gun and Blinky Fish, and that solo players will be able to earn extra reboots by damaging opponents, with chests now restocking over time as a new mechanic for the mode.
Ranked Season and Axe of Unreal Ship in the Same Update
Epic bundled the crossover with a broader competitive refresh rather than treating it as a pure cosmetic drop. The publisher confirmed a new Ranked Season is also part of the update, complete with post-match rank details, new rewards, and the Axe of Unreal for players who reach the Unreal rank. Additional Map Mastery quests round out the update, giving players extra reasons to jump into Reload beyond chasing the Sprite or the skin.
For Kiwi and Australian squads, the practical takeaway is timing: the update went live early on July 30 U.S. time, which puts most of the region’s servers unlocking the content late that same evening or into the small hours of July 31 local time, depending on time zone and daylight-saving offsets. As with past Fortnite crossovers, expect queue spikes and matchmaking hiccups in the first hours as players race to farm the new Mythic before Epic inevitably folds it into the standard loot pool later in the season.
