New Trailer for 4K Re-Release of ‘Your Name’ Beloved Anime Classic
“If we see each other, we’ll know.” GKids has revealed a new trailer for the 4K re-release of this beloved, successful anime classic Your Name from animation filmmaker Makoto Shinkai (who went on to make Weathering With You and Suzume). This originally premiered back in 2016 in Japan, but it didn’t open in the US until early 2017. But they’re going with the original debut to celebrate the film’s 10th Anniversary. “Feel the sparks fly.” One of the most enduring love stories of the 21st century returns to theaters in 2026. Two teenagers, a city boy in Tokyo and a girl in rural Japan, mysteriously begin swapping bodies, forging a connection that sends them searching for one another. Its sumptuous attention to detail in yearning vistas and pulsing city streets, driven by an unforgettable score from RADWIMPS, elevates its central romance to world-rending levels of destiny & longing. Everything is connected to a comet known as “279P/Tiamat” that appears in the sky. Featuring the voices of Ryûnosuke Kamiki, Mone Kamishiraishi, Ryô Narita and Aoi Yuki. This is a truly unforgettable film! I’ve seen it many times! See it on the big screen again this year.

Mitsuha and Taki are complete strangers living separate lives until they suddenly switch places. Mitsuha wakes up in Taki’s body, and he in hers. This occurrence happens randomly, and they must adjust their lives around each other. Yet, somehow, it works. They build a connection by leaving notes for one another until they wish to finally meet. But something stronger than distance may keep them apart. Your Name is both written and directed by filmmaker/writer Makoto Shinkai, of the films Voices of a Distant Star, 5 Centimeters Per Second, Children Who Chase Lost Voices, Someone’s Gaze, as well as The Garden of Words previously. The film is based on Shinkai’s own novel. The film originally premiered at the 2016 Anime Expo and then debuted in Japan in theaters August 2016; it eventually opened in US theaters in April 2017. GKids will re-release Shinkai’s Your Name film in 4K in US theaters again starting August 14th, 2026 coming up this summer.
