Here’s a touch of good news: your Xbox copies of certain Ubisoft games now work on PC. So if you own any of the following titles on Xbox, the publisher’s Ubisoft Connect platform lets you download them on PC free of charge:

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Far Cry 6
Immortals Fenyx Rising
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown
Riders Republic
Skull and Bones

That’s a substantial list, and while recent blockbuster release Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is conspicuously absent, it’s still a generous roster.
It’s part of a new partnership between Ubisoft and Microsoft, which was announcedmeans your PC copies will be added to your Ubisoft Connect account at some point between now and 4 August

However, it doesn’t work the opposite way. So if you have PC copies of these games, you can’t now also play them on PC.
How about DLC, in-game currencies and purchased cosmetics? Do they carry over from Xbox to PC? Yes, to an extent. Owned DLC will carry over no problem, but currency and cosmetics may not. It differs from game to game, so to check if your title’s carrying those bits across properly it’s worth checking the ‘game properties’ tab of that title in Ubisoft Connect.

It’s especially good news for The Crew Motorfest players who’ve been grinding away on the console version, but also own a gaming PC and can thus unleash a higher frame rate and turn the graphics options right up.
Now, if we could just go for a few months on a streak of stories like this one instead of layoffs, studio closures and server shutdowns, we might be onto something…
