The Mii-chan and Miss Yamada manga will receive an anime adaptation in 2027. A special promotional video and a celebratory illustration and message from original creator Nene Azuki were released alongside the announcement. Details about the staff and cast will be revealed at a later date.

Mii-chan and Miss Yamada Anime Set for 2027

Popular Manga Set in Kabukicho to Receive Anime Adaptation

The manga has been serialized on Kodansha’s official Magazine Pocket app since September 2024. Set in Shinjuku’s Kabukicho district in 2012, the story portrays 12 months in the nightlife world through Yamada, a hostess working at a nightclub, and Mii-chan, a new employee who always seems to fall just a little short, as well as the awkward yet lovable young women around them.

Mii-chan is motivated and energetic, but she struggles to read both kanji and social cues. Those around her ridicule her and label her as someone to be pitied. Even so, Yamada gradually finds herself drawn to Mii-chan as she watches her work with earnest determination.

In stark contrast to its charming artwork, the manga offers an unflinchingly realistic portrayal of inescapable loneliness and the harsh realities of life.
The series has gained explosive popularity, particularly on social media. With only six collected volumes currently available, the manga has already surpassed 2.8 million copies in circulation.

For comparison, when the anime adaptation of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba was announced on June 4, 2018, the manga had 2.5 million copies in circulation across 11 volumes, demonstrating the substantial fan base that Mii-chan and Miss Yamada has already attracted.

The series also placed fourth in the male readers category of Kono Manga ga Sugoi! <a href="https://comicvibe.com/2026-eisner-award-winners/” title=”2026 Eisner Award Winners”>2026. Related videos on YouTube, TikTok, and other platforms have received more than 100 million cumulative views. Each time a new chapter is released, the title enters the top 10 domestic trends, continuing to attract extraordinary attention across the web and social media.

The original manga has already been confirmed to conclude with its next release, Volume 7, and the serialization has now entered its final stage. With many readers closely following the fate of Mii-chan and Yamada, the anime adaptation has now officially been announced.

Nene Azuki Celebrates the Anime Announcement

The commemorative illustration drawn by Nene Azuki features Mii-chan and Yamada smiling side by side beneath the words “Congratulations!! Anime Adaptation.” Hamukatsu, the hamster that Mii-chan lovingly cares for, can also be seen in their hands. The artwork is a heartfelt piece created for readers who have followed the manga throughout its serialization.

Azuki also shared the following message about the anime adaptation:

“I am delighted to announce that Mii-chan and Miss Yamada is being adapted into an anime. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the readers who have supported the series.

“We have been blessed with an excellent production team, and work on the anime is progressing through continued communication and collaboration. I am also very excited to see how the world of Mii-chan and Miss Yamada will expand through forms of expression unique to animation.”

The newly released promotional video shows Mii-chan and Yamada standing hand in hand in front of the Kabukicho Ichibangai gate. Their voices reflect on the days they have spent together, giving the video a poignant and fleeting atmosphere.
