a Gaussian splatting tool for VRChat, has been updated to version 4. VRCGS is a Unity editor extension and Udon runtime that converts 3D Gaussian splatting scan data into content for VRChat worlds. The developer is Mykhailo Moroz

v4 employs a new rendering method that converts all splat objects into world space, sorts them together, and renders them. It supports depth sorting every frame and, with the introduction of the LOD system, can render up to 100 million splats in the world. Large PLY files can be imported

We’ve added support for spherical harmony, where colors change depending on the viewpoint. Integration with VRC Light Volumes has also been added, allowing you to reflect baked lighting from the world onto the splat.

The importer has also been revamped. In addition to the conventional .ply format, it now supports importing .spz format. It also features an interactive preview function that allows you to specify the crop area and align the position. Simply placing a splat in the scene automatically generates an in-world UI with gallery mode and other features. The UI is bilingual in Japanese and English.

A terrain collider feature has also been added. It uses the GPU to create a heightmap of the splat and generate a TerrainCollider, allowing you to walk around on the scan.

I finally released the LOD version of VRChat Gaussian splatting that supports 100M scale splats!

The supported environments are the PC version of VRChat and the mobile versions for Meta Quest and Android. Simultaneous rendering of up to 8M splats is recommended for the PC version, and up to 512K splats for the mobile version.

VRCGS is available for purchase on BOOTH for 1,000 yen, and is also freely available on GitHub as open-le with v3, and existing splats will need to be re-imported
