    • Disney+ is launching a UK spin-off of the long-running ABC News series 20/20, investigating high-profile British crimes.
    • The six-part docuseries will premiere on July 30, 2026, simultaneously on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland, and on Disney+ and Hulu in the US.
    • The show will delve into cases like Jane Andrews, Joanna Yeates, Mahek Bukhari, Ben Field, Ben Needham, and Peter Tobin, with interviews, news reports, and fresh evidence.

Disney+ is set to bring one of ABC News’long-running series to foreign markets for the first time. The iconic 20/20documentary series will launch 20/20: Britain’s Most Notorious Crime Investigations later this month.

Disney+ develops UK true crime spin-off from ABC News’ TV show

The 20/20 spin-off show will premiere on Thursday, July 30, 2026. It will investigate some of the UK’s most high-profile crimes. The six-part docuseries represents the first non-US edition of the long-running news program. It has been broadcasting continuously on ABC since 1978. The series will launch simultaneously on Disney+ in the United Kingdom and Ireland while streaming on both Disney+ and Hulu in the United States.

The show will look back on six high-profile British criminal cases that involved in-depth investigations, with the help of interviews with witnesses, news reports, and fresh evidence. Among the cases under the microscope will be Jane Andrews, Joanna Yeates, Mahek Bukhari, Ben Field, Ben Needham and Peter Tobin. Some of these crimes have already been adapted into successful TV series in Britain.

The original 20/20 was the brainchild of legendary television executive Roone Arledge. He felt the need for it to serve as a competitor to CBS’s 60 Minutes. It is currently hosted by David Muir and Deborah Roberts. The program transformed into a two-hour format in 2019, covering more true crime and celebrity-oriented stories.

The UK version is produced by Candle True Stories in partnership with ABC News Studios. Candle True Stories is a documentary company owned by Candle Media. It is run by former ABC News president James Goldston. Goldston and Alicia Kerr are executive producers, while Ralph Perring is a co-executive producer. Additionally, David Sloan and Eamon McNiff are executive producers for ABC News Studios.

The announcement also shows that Disney+ is expanding its presence in the true crime genre. It has already invested significantly in the niche, including such docuseries as Caroline Flack: Search for the Truth, Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story and Flintoff. Disney+ has more projects in the works, including the drama series The Devil in My DMs and an adaptation of Tom Hindle’s best-selling book Murder on Lake Garda.
