Godsmack are giving one of their most iconic albums an entirely new life, announcing a graphic novel inspired by their breakthrough 2000 record Awake.

Created in partnership between Godsmack and Sumerian Comics, Godsmack: Awake takes the themes and atmosphere of the multi-platinum album and reimagines them as a 96 page supernatural thriller.

Rather than retelling the album track by track, the story builds an original narrative centred on memory, guilt and redemption.

The graphic novel follows Sevrin, a man who awakens alone among the sand dunes of Massachusetts with no memory of how he got there, covered in bruises and carrying only a mysterious matchbook, he’s drawn into a surreal Halloween night where each stop along his journey forces him to relive violent deaths from different eras.

As the visions unfold, Sevrin is confronted by the consequences of greed, rage and repeated mistakes, with every encounter blurring the line between the living and the dead, his only chance of escape is to confront the past before it consumes him completely.

The project has been with artwork from Giusi Lo Piccolo, colours by Simone D’Angelo and lettering by Toni Sardina, the oversized hardcover measures 7.25 by 11 inches and will be released with a range of collector’s editions for fans

    Pre order bundles

Five different pre order bundles have been announced, ranging from a standard hardcover through to a limited Tier 5 edition restricted to just 50 copies worldwide.

The top tier package includes a slipcase, T-shirt, postcard set, digital edition, themed collectibles and a bookplate signed by frontman Sully Erna.

Originally released in 2000, Awake helped establish Godsmack as one of modern hard rock’s defining acts, producing fan favourites including ‘Awake’, ‘Greed’ and ‘Bad Magick’. More than 25 years later, the album is continuing to evolve beyond music.

The announcement adds another chapter to a busy period for the band, following the release of their live album Live At Mohegan Sun and their ongoing Rise Of The Rock World Tour.

For fans of Godsmack, horror and graphic novels, Godsmack: Awake looks set to offer a fresh way to experience one of the band’s defining releases.
