Goer Dynamics, IMAX and IMAX China have formed a strategic partnership to develop what the companies describe as the world’s first IMAX-branded in-vehicle entertainment system. The system will combine advanced audio architecture with a calibrated high-definition video display to create an immersive entertainment experience inside autonomous and smart vehicles.

The companies expect the first systems to enter commercial production by the end of 2026.

Goer Dynamics and IMAX will jointly market the technology to premium automotive manufacturers across China.

The partnership reflects expectations that autonomous driving will change how passengers use vehicles by creating more opportunities to watch films, attend virtual events and consume other media while traveling.

As vehicles gain more self-driving capabilities, automakers are increasingly treating the cabin as a third living space alongside the home and workplace.

The new system is being designed to deliver an experience resembling a mobile cinema while accounting for the limitations and changing conditions found inside a vehicle.

Goer Dynamics will contribute its experience in automotive acoustics, smart cockpit systems and premium audio-visual products.

IMAX will provide its entertainment technology, imaging expertise and brand standards.

The system will feature an IMAX-exclusive acoustic architecture engineered to support a wide dynamic range and strong low-frequency performance.

The companies said the audio system is intended to produce powerful bass while limiting distortion.

Vehicle cabins can present significant acoustic challenges because of their compact dimensions, reflective surfaces, seating arrangements and background noise from roads, tires and surrounding traffic.

Designing an immersive in-car audio experience requires speakers, amplifiers and software to work together across different seating positions and vehicle configurations.

The system will also include an IMAX-certified smart display using a large, flip-down 4K HDR screen.

High dynamic range technology is designed to improve contrast, brightness and color reproduction, allowing viewers to see more detail in both bright and dark portions of an image.

Custom display technologies will be used to reproduce cinematic detail while adapting the picture to changing ambient light conditions.

This capability is important because sunlight, streetlights, tunnels and other road environments can affect how images appear inside a vehicle.

Intelligent ambient light adaptation will adjust the display to help preserve image quality as external lighting changes.

The system will be available in modular configurations to meet the requirements of different automotive manufacturers and vehicle models.

These configurations will support a range of cabin speaker layouts and can be tailored to different trim levels.

The modular approach is intended to make it easier for automakers to integrate the technology across multiple vehicle platforms without developing an entirely separate entertainment system for each model.

Goer Dynamics and IMAX are initially targeting premium vehicles, where manufacturers are adding more advanced displays, audio systems and connected services to differentiate their products.

The partnership could also create opportunities for recurring content and service offerings as automakers explore new revenue models involving in-vehicle entertainment.

Goer Dynamics was founded in 2020 and operates as part of Goer Group.

The company develops acoustic systems and premium audio-visual entertainment products across automotive, home audio, professional studio monitoring, consumer electronics and smart cockpit applications.

Its brands include Dynaudio, XEO and Libratone.

Goer Dynamics operates across more than 10 cities in six countries and maintains capabilities spanning research, product design, manufacturing and content.

The company said it has delivered in-vehicle entertainment systems for nearly three million new energy vehicles.

IMAX is expanding its technology and brand beyond traditional movie theaters into areas including live events, home entertainment, merchandise and automotive experiences.

The company operated 1,865 systems across 91 countries and territories as of March 31, 2026.

The Goer Dynamics partnership provides IMAX with another way to apply its audio and visual standards in environments outside conventional cinemas.

For automotive manufacturers, the system could provide a ready-to-integrate entertainment package carrying a recognizable premium brand.

The companies believe immersive entertainment will become a more important purchasing consideration as vehicles gain greater levels of automation and passengers spend less time focused on driving.

“With the advent of autonomous driving, we believe car buyers will increasingly focus on immersive entertainment systems in their purchase decisions and we are excited to work with Goer Group, a premier manufacturing partner to some of the world’s biggest technology companies, to capture that opportunity. With our strong global brand and expertise in entertainment technology, we believe IMAX has the opportunity to set a new standard in premium in-vehicle entertainment.”

Daniel Manwaring, CEO of IMAX China

“Autonomous driving continues to reshape the relationship between people and their vehicles, and the in-car immersive audio-visual experience will gradually become a key consideration for consumers when purchasing smart vehicles. IMAX is an iconic brand in the global entertainment sector, possessing a mature ecosystem of content and technology, making this collaboration perfectly timed. We are delighted to enter into this strategic partnership with IMAX. By leveraging Goer Dynamics’ long-standing expertise in high-end automotive acoustics and smart cockpit system solutions, combined with IMAX’s cutting-edge imaging technology, this powerful alliance is committed to creating an industry-leading in-car immersive entertainment system, delivering a truly premium mobile cinema experience tailored for the on-the-go environment.”
