After the success of the Dhurandharfranchise, R Madhavan is set to play the role of legendary inventor Gopalswamy Doraiswamy Naidu in the latter’s biopic. Ever since the trailer of the film was dropped, fans were intrigued to see the actor in a different avatar. However, on the day of its initially planned release, the makers have now postponed the film and announced a new release date.
R Madhavan’s GDN postponed
Back in May 2026, the makers released a new poster offering a striking glimpse into the world of the film, starring R Madhavan. The poster saw the actor joining hands and greeting a huge crowd, while actors Sathyaraj and Dushara Vijayan stood by his side. The poster also carries the line, “Feared by the British Forgotten by his countrymen,” hinting at the emotional and historical side the narrative aims to explore.
Sharing the poster, the makers also announced the release date in the caption, which read, “Vision. Innovation. Legacy. GDN, inspired by the extraordinary journey of G. D. Naidu. Releasing worldwide on July 17, 2026 (sic).”
However, on July 17, the makers announced that the pan-India biographical epic will now release on August 7, 2026. The three-week delay is believed to be a calculated effort by the producers to give the film the wide, premium exhibition space it deserves across diverse language markets.
Along with the new release date, the makers also unveiled a new poster of R. Madhavan’s look in the film.
About GDN
GDNwill be arriving in five languages worldwide, including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada circuits. The biographical epic revolves around the turbulent, inspiring journey of the man often known as the ‘Edison of India.’ He invented India’s first indigenous electric motor, yet his legacy remains heavily obscured by time.
The film is directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar and is produced by Varghese Moolan Pictures in association with Tricolour Films. Along with R Madhavan, the film also features a major ensemble cast including Jayaram, Sathyaraj, Priyamani, Dushara Vijayan, Thambi Ramaiah, Vinay Rai, and Yogi Babu.
GDN is now set to release on August 7, 2026.
