This week, developer FREE STYLE, Inc. announced that their hide ‘n seek slash supernatural tag game ‘OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase & Seek’ will launch on Nintendo Switch (1 and 2!) consoles globally on 6 August. Pre-orders are live on the Nintendo eShop, with the Nintendo Switch version retailing at 19.99 USD and the Nintendo Switch 2 variant running up a 24.99 USD bill.

OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase & Seek invites thee into an eerie world inspired by traditional Japanese legends for a thrilling game of cat-and-mouse. Dive into this monster-infested world solo, or team up with friends! Featuring a unique “scary-cute” character design and charming visuals, this game delivers all the heart-pounding tension of asymmetric multiplayer matches in an accessible, fun package for all ages and horror tolerance levels.

Except me. I can’t handle horror at all, no matter how cute it looks. Yipes!

Matches support up to 8 players online. Players will face off in intense 3-minute rounds as either a Monster (1 or 2 players) or a Human (3 or 6 players). If the Monsters catch everyone and put them in jail within the time limit, they win. If even a single Human manages to evade capture until time runs out, the Humans win!

Monsters possess unique traits and skills—such as passing through walls, high-speed movement, and powerful capture attacks. Use them wisely to craft your winning strategy!

Humans must rely on teamwork to survive. Jump across floors to escape, carry your allies to safety, or flash your trump card—the Lantern—to stun the Monsters and make a break for it!

Don’t panic if you get caught! Your teammates can come to the rescue and break you out of jail. However, watch out for camping Monsters—a rescue mission can easily turn into a trap, leading to a dramatic victory for the Monster team!

Online & Local Multiplayer with Game Share Support!

OBAKEIDORO 2: Chase & Seekis built for chaotic fun and cooperation, whether you are playing online with players worldwide or sharing the couch with friends and family. Both online and local multiplayer modes support up to 8 players.

The game also features a Custom Rules mode, allowing you to freely adjust the monster-to-human ratio, time limits, and more. Furthermore, by using the Game Share feature across two Nintendo Switch™ 2 systems, players without a copy of the game to join in on the fun!

    • Asymmetric Cooperative Battles: Play as a Monster or work together as Humans to survive and evade capture across various eerie stages reminiscent of historic Japanese settings.
    • Fast-Paced, Accessible Matches: With simple controls and quick 3-minute rounds, it’s the perfect casual party game.
    • Effortless Local Play: Use the Nintendo Switch™ 2 Game Share feature to invite friends to play, even if they don’t own the software.

6 Modes Tailored to Your Playstyle:

    • Quick Match: An online battle mode with players from around the world. The available maps rotate every hour, changing up the gameplay experience. 8-player matches are held at specific times.
    • Room Match: Play online in private rooms. You can restrict entry with a password or gather friends by sharing the Room ID.
    • Join Friends: Jump straight into the action with friends who are already playing online. This supports both Quick Match and Room Match, letting you join your friends’ sessions directly.
    • Single Player Chase & Seek:A solo mode where you can enjoy the game at your own pace. This is the best mode for earning Coins, the in-game currency used to unlock new Monsters and Lanterns.
    • Local Party Chase & Seek:A local multiplayer mode for up to 8 players using multiple Nintendo Switch systems. Create a private room and face off via local wireless communication.
    • Splitscreen Chase & Seek:A couch co-op/versus mode for up to 4 players on a single system. The screen splits into four, allowing families and friends to laugh and play together in the same room.
