
The state of comics journalism has received a huge boost with the launch of the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. comic messengera new print newspaper aiming to fill the void of serious comics criticism.
Comic Courier is Tiffany Barb (PanelxPanel, Popverse) and will be published in print as a semi-annual tabloid-sized newspaper dedicated to in-depth writing about comics. Contributors include a who’s who of current comics writers, including Douglas Walker, Hassan Otzman-Elho, Tiffany Barb, Dave Baker, Kelly MacLaine, Sean Dillon, Kate Karamiya, Lisa and Brad Gulick Sen, Liam McGuire, Jim McDermott and Lily Hochwind.
Barb explains why we need this: “While Comics Courier is a love letter to comics, it’s even more a love letter to comics criticism. Comics criticism is an important part of the industry, but it’s The support and space are dwindling every year. I hope Comic Courier can be a space where great critics can celebrate and share great work for years to come.
The just-launched Comics Courier Kickstarter campaign is already accelerating towards its goal, but we need to support this. We need to write good articles about comics in a lasting format, not just 200-word snippets on YouTube videos and toxic robot platforms.
