Nintendo patent filed for dock that could support both Switch and Switch 2

Arguably the most important aspect of the Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2 is the dock. After all, if it weren’t for the dock, the Switch wouldn’t be able to… switch… at all. As of right now, the Switch and Switch 2 docks are two separate things that aren’t compatible with the other system in any way. However, a new patent indicates that this might change in the future

For example, with the Switch 1 inside of it, this dock would use USB 2.0, while it would swap to USB 3.0 for Switch 2. The Switch 2 would also get increased video resolution and cooling from the internal fan. For anyone who regularly swaps between the two consoles in their home, a single dock would definitely be convenient
As with all patents from Nintendo, please note that these products may never see the light of day. We’ve seen Nintendo patent all sorts of ideas over the years, but only some make it to the public. In the meantime, we can speculate as to whether this dock would be available as a separate purchase, or if it would become standard in future Switch and Switch 2 packages
