Console makers like Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo often patent ideas for future features, though they don’t always make it to the consumer market. The latest console feature patent from Sony describes a system that would essentially turn your controller into a credit‑card reader.

Microsoft has filed a patent application that inserts advertisements into video games during boss fights, cutscenes, or quest completions. The core mechanic grants players “credits” that allow ad-free gameplay for a set duration after watching an ad.
