REDDING, Calif. —Redding’s Anime Expo is returning this summer with a new venue and a weekend packed with cosplay and fandom events
After a number of years at the Red Lion Hotel, the expo is moving to the Holiday Inn on Hilltop Drive for the weekend of Aug. 1. Organizer Chris Munday said the new location will allow the event to bring in bigger names than before, including stars from major franchises such as One Piece, Pokémon and X-Men 97, which just released its second season

The expo’s schedule includes cosplay competitions and triing their outfits early
“They show up and they walk in the doors and it’s a whole different world in there,” he said. “A whole nerd immersive world, and people really like it. Even if you’re not a nerd people come and they really like it and they become nerds.”
The event is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 1 and 2. Tickets will be sold at the door, and children under 10 will be admitted for free
