SteelSeries releases new flagship Apex Pro keyboard

SteelSeries has released the latest versions of its popular Apex Pro keyboards, all built around new and improved Omnipoint 3.0 switches. They support 40 adjustable drive levels, are highly responsive, and offer a unique protection mode to help eliminate accidental keystrokes. The Apex Pro Gen 3, Apex Pro TKL Gen 3, and Apex Pro TKL Wireless Gen 3 are available now—so give them a look if you want to update your battlefield before all the big holiday releases.

With the exception of the Omnipoint 3.0 switch, most other features are shared between the three units. You’ll find an OLED smart display to help optimize your setup, rich customizable RGB lighting, a premium aircraft-grade aluminum top plate for durability, and a magnetic wrist rest to help you through long gaming sessions. You’ll also find acoustic foam inside all three keyboards to help smooth out their performance.

The cheapest of the three is the Apex Pro TKL Gen 3, which sells for $220. It’s perfect for narrow desktops because it doesn’t have a keyboard, giving you plenty of room for mouse movement. The Apex Pro Gen 3 has a traditional keyboard layout and is slightly more expensive at $240.

The best of the bunch is the Apex Pro TKL Wireless Gen 3, which costs $270 — but if you don’t like wires, it’s worth the extra cost. Instead of a cable, it connects to your system via a USB receiver or Bluetooth. Please note that this product has been listed as “Currently Unavailable” and it’s unclear when it will be back in stock.

SteelSeries isn’t the only company launching new products, Razer recently launched the BlackWidow V4 Pro 75% Wireless. The name is a mouthful, but it’s definitely a powerful feature – in addition to wireless support, it also comes with an OLED display, a hot-swappable design, customizable RGB lights, a magnetic wrist rest, and the controversial Snap Tap technology , a technology that helps register certain information faster with keystrokes. At $300 it’s a bit pricey, but if you need an ultra-premium keyboard, consider it.
