TikTok is expanding creator subscription eligibility.

The monetization feature, formerly known as Instant Subscriptions, is only available to creators who live on the platform. But starting today (September 23), any creator who is 18 or older, has at least 10,000 followers, and has accumulated at least 100,000 video views in the past year can subscribe. LIVE creators who were previously eligible to use the feature will still have access.

LIVE subscriptions were first launched in 2022, targeting the streaming space to compete with YouTube and Twitch.

Mix and match speed of light

TikTok offers three tiers of subscriptions. Similar to Patreon, Instagram subscriptions and YouTube memberships, users pay a monthly fee to access exclusive content, channels and identifying stickers. Creators can chat directly with subscribers on the “subspace”, and subscribers will receive unique badges and stickers during the live broadcast.

Currently, LIVE subscriptions start at $2.99 per month, with some creators charging $5.99. When the feature first launched, TechCrunch reported that it was priced on par with a Twitch subscription at $4.99.
