A trading card store in Fair Lawn is not only offering a place for people to add to their collections, but creating a space where people can gather to play their favorite games

KMTV Trading Cards, also known as Kid Motors TV, opened at 30-04 Broadway earlier this year but will hold an official ribbon-cutting this month

Owner Allan Parker Jr., 52, sells comic books, figurines, collectibles and trading cards games such as Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, One Piece and Magic: The Gathering

One of the comic series he sells is called “Kid Motors,” which he helped create as an independent comic publisher in 2020. It also provided the name for the store

The series, which features the adventures of kids wearing high-tech helmets that let them travel back in time, was an idea for which Parker created character designs almost a decade ago. He decided to go forward with finding a writing and artist team to make it a reality when the pandemic hit

Kid Motors TV, located a 30-04 Broadway in Fair Lawn, will hold an official ribbon cutting in late July.

“I was trying to figure out what to give the world at the time of trauma,” Parker said. “There was nobody on the streets. It was an empty road. I was trying to give people something to read and a good story.”

His childhood friend Louis Pryor, who co-founded an independent comic publishing company called Be Amazed Studios, was the one who pushed him into trying his hand at creating the series, Parker said

“He is why I’m doing what I’m doing,” Parker said. “I adopted from the experiences from our childhood, when we used to draw together.”

Originally from Queens, Parker moved to Elmwood Park in 2020. In addition to working on the comic series, he decided to open a comic store in town, which also evolved in offering trading card games like Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh. He stayed at the space until last October

His Fair Lawn location, which opened at the end of January, is about five times the size of the old location, allowing more space for people to play card games inside

Parker also live streams on TikTok with daily interactions with his customers

“People will pick up stuff off the shelves saying ‘how much is this?'” Parker said. “It’s like QVC online shopper.”

He is happy to have moved into the Fair Lawn community and said the locals have been “amazing.”

“People are friendly,” Parker said. “This is a great community that I believe, from what I’ve seen so far, to raise a family where parents feel like ‘I want my son or daughter to play with these kids and meet other families.'”

The store normally operates from noon to 7 p.m. on weekdays and Sundays, but hours on Saturday will vary. Parker will update his website with Saturday hours. More information about Kid Motors can be found on its Facebook or Instagram pages
