Pakistan vs Sri Lanka Test series 2026: Preview
Pakistan arrive in poor red-ball form for the two Tests against Sri Lanka in their own backyard, having lost six of their seven fixtures this year.
They went down 3-0 in England, and their two-match series against the West Indies finished 1-1, which leaves them ninth in both the ICC Test rankings and the World Test Championship standings.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made major changes to the coaching staff during the England tour, and after the defeat at Lord’s, it sacked head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul. Misbah-ul-Haq also stepped down from his roles as batting consultant and selection committee member.
White-ball head coach Hesson took over as interim Test coach before the third Test against England, and he stays in charge for this home series. Former Australian domestic cricketer Ashley Noffke has joined the support staff as assistant and bowling coach.
Hesson has also reportedly urged Test captain Babar Azam to go back to domestic cricket and rediscover his batting form before the series against Sri Lanka begins.
