Priyadarshini Indalkar: Diwali this year is solely about family time
![]()
For Priyadarshini Indalkar, Diwali is a time packed with reliving old memories and making new ones. The Dashavatar and Jayanti 2 actress is a fan of making killas, we hear. “If I had to pick one core memory of Diwali, it would be that of making killa with my friends. It is not something I get to do now as much I would love to. But the planning, design and execution of the killa during childhood is etched in my memory,” she says, adding, “I also remember going to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan to watch the killa-making competition.”Food, conversations and laughterThe Maharashtrachi Hasya Jatra actor says she doesn’t burst crackers and hasn’t done so since class IX. “For me, Diwali is about togetherness, conversations, catching up with friends, gorging on faral and just having a very happy time. I had pledged not to burst crackers in class IX and I follow that pledge till date. Of course, it’s not something everyone can or wants to do, but we should at least think about whether crackers are really part of our tradition before purchasing them,” she says. The highlight of her Diwali celebrations is that her sister and grandfather’s birthdays fall during the festival. “That just doubles our joy during the festivities,” she shares.
I am a workaholic and have worked on almost all holidays and special occasions. But of late, I have spent a lot of time away from home. So, this year, I am going to be with my family and spend Diwali with them and my friends

Fashion mantra? Keeping it simpleDressing up is a big part of the festivities. The traditional outfits that otherwise rarely make it out of the wardrobe make regular appearances throughout Diwali for everyone. Ask Priyadarshini what her go-to fashion mantra is and she shares, “I don’t have a specific mantra as such but I genuinely feel one should wear whatever makes them feel comfortable and happy. It’s not about buying an expensive outfit but about feeling great in what you wear.” She also confesses that going all out in terms of her getup during the festival is not something she’s a fan of. “Honestly, due to my profession, I spend a lot of time dressing up daily. So, when I am on my own, I don’t love doing that. I prefer wearing something that I love, irrespective of whether it’s jazzy or simple. And my go-to pick is a comfortable mul cotton sari, paired with a bindi, jumkas and open hair,” she says.
Diet during Diwali is a myth. You cannot keep me away from karanjis. But I follow two things – not to overeat and avoid napping in the afternoon
