Britain’s future king has discovered the track jacket.
Prince George, 13, joined his dad, Prince William, at a soccer match in Barcelona, Spain, on Nov. 3. In the pouring rain, the pair watched their favorite team, Aston Villa, which is based in Birmingham, England, take on FC Barcelona in the Champions League, a tournament for Europe’s top teams. Villa lost 3-0. George’s outfit fared better.

Instead of the blazer he usually wears to games, George had on a black athletic jacket with the Aston Villa logo on the chest. The jacket is made by Adidas, which makes Villa’s official uniforms (or “kit,” as the British say). William dressed up a bit more, in a navy blazer over a crewneck sweater, along with a rain jacket.
It’s not the first tracksuit to catch his eye. In 2022, a 9-year-old George watched British R&B singer Craig David perform in a sparkly blue sequined tracksuit at the Platinum Party at the Palace, a concert celebrating Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years on the throne.
Afterward, David said, William sought him out with a message from his son. “My son George was going crazy for the blue sequined outfit,” David recalled William telling him, in an appearance on the British talk show “The Jonathan Ross Show.”
Barcelona welcomed the pair on X, saying the club was “honoured to welcome” them to the stadium.
George is a student at Eton College, the nearly 600-year-old boarding school near Windsor Castle that his dad and his uncle, Prince Harry, also attended. He started there in September.

The casual turn is a notable shift for a boy whose game day wardrobe has historically been buttoned-up. At Villa’s quarterfinal game in Paris in April 2025, he wore a navy blazer. And at the Euro 2024 final in Berlin, George and William wore matching dark suits.
William has offered a few glimpses of the teenager behind the track jacket. In a 2025 episode of Eugene Levy’s Apple TV+ series “The Reluctant Traveler,” the prince admitted his son has already passed him in at least one subject. “George, my son, is way better in history than I am,” <a href="https://people.com/prince-william-reveals-prince-george-way-better-history-11832443″ rel=”nofollow noopener” target=”_blank”>William said, joking that he now has to check his dates with him.
Later in the episode, Levy asked what being king will mean for George. William said he’s thinking about the monarchy his son will one day inherit. “I want to create a world in which my son is proud of what we do,” he said.
