Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor has allegedly received a call from someone claiming to be Harry Boxer, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, demanding Rs 5 crore as extortion.
According to news agency IANS, Tusshar has informed the Mumbai Police, which handed over the investigation to Anti-Extortion Cell and Crime Branch.
The Crime Branch’s technical team has examined the audio recording of the threat call and compared the voice with official audio samples of Harry Boxer available in its database.
According to senior police officials, the samples did not match, raising suspicion that the call was fake and that someone had used the gang’s name to create fear.
Police are now searching for the person who sent the audio recording.

This news of threat comes just a few days after actor Tiger Shroff was targetted in Mumbai. Two shooters fired five rounds at Tiger Shroff’s car as he was leaving a football ground in Mumbai’s Juhu area on October 18. While the 36-year-old ‘Baaghi’ actor escaped largely unhurt, his car driver and a bystander, who is a vlogger, were injured.
Members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the firing. Police have named jailed gangster Bishnoi’s aide Anil Pandit as a wanted accused.
Thirteen persons have been arrested in the case so far. They were apprehended from different places in Rajasthan, Delhi and Haryana. Now the Mumbai Crime Branch has also arrested a woman, from Haryana in connection with Tiger Shroff firing case, a police official said on Monday.
The woman was nabbed from Karnal on Sunday, he said without disclosing her identity or role in the crime. According to the Crime Branch official, the 22-year-old accused was apprehended with the assistance of the Karnal police, and further legal action to bring her to Mumbai was underway.
The arrested accused include three women.
The police on October 27 invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the accused. (With PTI inputs)
