The saga of Sidney Prescott isn’t over. Actress Neve Campbell confirmed her return to the iconic slasher role with Scream 8.
Campbell famously sat out the sixth entry in the horror franchise over a pay dispute. She returned to headline the seventh film, which opened in theaters this past February, after director Kevin Williamson came aboard and shifted the story’s focus back to Sidney.
Speaking with the Associated Press at a Tuesday launch event in London for Netflix’s Black Doves, Campbell told the press outlet about her upcoming projects. “I’ve got two shows that I’m developing, one I’ve sold, and Scream 8,” she said, smiling. “So, you know, that’s in the pipeline as well.”
When asked to elaborate on the sequel, Campbell responded, “You know, I can never tell you anything about Scream 8. I’ll be in it.”
Entertainment Weekly reached out to reps for production company Spyglass Media Group and studio Paramount Pictures for comment.
With Campbell back as the star after sitting out the previous entry, Scream 7 earned the franchise its biggest opening weekend with $97.2 million worldwide. It then became the highest-grossing title in the series with $208 million globally, according to figures shared by Paramount. Critics, however, didn’t generally share the hype.
Williamson, a Scream veteran for writing the first few films, directed Scream 7, which took place in the town of Pine Grove in Indiana. There, Sidney Prescott built a new life as Sidney Evans, wife of police chief Mark Evans (Joel McHale) and mother to teenage Tatum Evans (Isabel May), named for Sidney’s high school bestie (Rose McGowan’s Scream role).

With her child now the same age she was when Ghostface first attacked, Sidney must contend with the emergence of multiple masked killers who target Tatum. Sidney and her family survived the events of Scream 7, should they remain the focus in the future.
Courteney Cox returned as news reporter Gale Weathers alongside Campbell for number eight. Matthew Lillard also returned as Stu Macher, one of the killers in the first movie, with a few other surprise guests snuck in.
Scream 8 is currently in development after Poker Face showrunners Lilla and Nora Zuckerman were reported to be writing the next entry. The Hollywood Reporter relayed that Williamson will not return to direct, though he will be involved as a producer.
