In the gaming hardware wild west we’re all living in right now, if you’re looking for top-tier components and are considering a fully future-proofed pre-built PC, the new Alienware Area-51 Gaming Desktop is worth a look.
If you’ve tried to get your hands on a top-tier graphics card in the last 12 months, you’ll know how much of a pain it is, both in terms of time and money. Waiting in online queues with thousands of people just to spend a couple of thousand pounds on the latest GPU. That’s why so many people are turning to the pre-built PC market right now, and Alienware’s latest, the Area-51 Gaming Desktop, now with AMD CPUs, is one of the best-performing pre-builts around.
Let’s dive in and see how it stacks up.

Alienware Area-51 Gaming Desktop design and features
Let’s talk specs first, and as I said, this thing is a beast. It’s got some of the best hardware on the market right now, and lots of it. For starters, it boasts an Nvidia RTX 5090, the most sought-after GPU right now, with this powerhouse of a graphics card sporting 32GB of GDDR7 memory, 21,760 CUDA cores and a 575W TDP.
And it’s not lacking on the CPU side either, with this new model of the Alienware Area-51 desktop having an AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D; we’re talking 8 cores, 16 threads, with a second-generation 3D V-Cache, a 4.7 GHz base clock, a 5.6 GHz boost clock, and 104 MB of L3 cache. Although this isn’t actually the absolute maxed-out configuration of this machine, because it can be configured up to an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D.

This all sits on an AMD X870E motherboard, which supports an insane amount of IO. I’ll put it in list form down below.
-
4x USB (2x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C + 2x USB 3.2 Type-A) on top
-
2x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (10gbps), 5x USB 2.0, 1x USB 3.2 Type-A (5gbps)
-
RJ-45 Realtek RTL8125BG 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet
-
MediaTek MT7925 Wi-Fi 7 MIMO 802.11be
And, even in this economy, it has 64GB of DDR5 RAM (6400 MT/s), a 2TB Gen5 SSD, and a 1500W Platinum-rated PSU, giving it loads of headroom for overclocking both the GPU and CPU, if that’s your thing!
And if you’re thinking of overclocking, or doing any particularly demanding workloads, the good news is that there’s plenty of cooling, with this Alienware PC having a massive 360mm AIO with dual 140mm bottom fans, dual 180mm front fans, and up to three 120mm top fans. But thanks to the illuminated Alien head and lighting ring, it looks cool too.
All this is housed within an 80.5L futuristic chassis (as you’d expect from Alienware), with lovely curved edges and a massive tempered glass door that showcases all the components, nicely lit by RGB.
This RGB can be configured through the Alienware Command Centre software, which also controls system fans, performance profiles for the PC, and, of course, overclocking.

Alienware Area-51 Gaming Desktop performance
It should be no surprise that this thing absolutely rips in terms of raw performance. No matter what your workload is, whether you’re recording 4K footage, streaming at high bit rates, video editing, gaming (even at the highest graphics settings possible), this desktop PC never even seems to break a sweat.
I’ve really tried to push this PC to the limit in every game and application, and it handles everything incredibly well. I’ll pop some of the benchmarking numbers below, so you can check out the crazy performance of this thing, but essentially, this thing will handle pretty much anything you want to do with a PC, and even more. The innovative cooling solution keeps all components nice and cool too, so if you do want to tweak and tinker to get a little bit more performance, there’s plenty of headroom.

Alienware Area-51 Gaming Desktop value for money
Now, this is where things get a bit silly. We’re in a silly world right now when it comes to technology. Specifically, graphics cards, memory and RAM, all of which this desktop has the highest spec of, and a lot of it.
So, let’s rip the band-aid off. For this specific configuration, the Alienware Area 51 Desktop PC comes in at £8,859.49.
Taking a look at PC Part Picker, when all the parts are added together individually, you’re looking at over £10,000, and that’s because, at the time of writing, the cheapest RTX 5090 that was in stock was just over £6000. Wowzers.
If you compare the price against other pre-built PC options, such as PC Specialist, a comparable model comes in at £6,759.00. But that only has half the storage (1TB), a less powerful PSU (1000W) and a more basic AIO cooler, plus it doesn’t come with the same futuristic design.
To be clear, I’m not saying the Alienware Area-51 is a good deal, by any stretch, but given current hardware prices, buying a pre-built might be the best option for some people, especially if you don’t fancy being stuck in a 50,000-person online queue to get a top-tier GPU.

Alienware Area-51 Gaming Desktop final thoughts
The new Alienware Area-51 Gaming Desktop is the best-performing PC I’ve ever used, hands down. There is nothing you can throw at it, right now, that would cause it any trouble at all. This desktop has all of the performance you could ever need, and more.
Obviously, it’s not cheap, by any means, but the gaming hardware market is crazy right now, and if you’re in the market for a pre-built gaming pc that’s going to last you for years, and years to come, the Alienware Area-51 Gaming Desktop is worth considering. Other pre-built PCs may come in cheaper, especially for this exact configuration, but this depends on the configuration you want for your specific needs. In any case, if you have the money to spend and you want the best performance, it’s definitely worth a look.
