James Gunn’sSuperman 2has an iconic casting, as the director confirmed that Scooby-Doostar Matthew Lillard will officially be a part of the movie. However, it seems that Lillard has also revealed another detail about his character in Man of Tomorrow.
Speaking with The Direct, Lillard strongly implied that his character is an original character in the movie; audiences will not find his character in the comic books.
It’s a very James Gunn moment. So, I wouldn’t worry too much about finding him in the comics.
James Gunn is no stranger to using original characters of his own creation in core DCU movies. In fact, another original character created by the Supermandirector found quite a lot of importance in the future.
James Gunn’s Original Characters Have Found Importance in the DCU
Back in PeacemakerSeason 1, the character of Leota Adebayo was introduced, who was an original character not present in the comics. Being Amanda Waller’s daughter, Adebayo found great importance and became a member of Checkmate and Christopher Smith’s best friend in Season 2.
Even James Gunn’s Supermanwas no stranger to this original-character treatment since the film introduced Mister Handsome, a malformed creature whom Lex Luthor cared about deeply in the movie.
The animated DC series, Creature Commandos, also saw another original role in Princess Ilana Rostovic, who went on to become the main problem of Task Force M.
Naturally, we can assume that although Matthew Lillard’s character in Man of Tomorrowmight be an original character, he would be given importance in the upcoming DCU film.
What This Means For Matthew Lillard’s Character In Man of Tomorrow
Rumor from Atlanta DC Fans has it that Matthew Lillard’s character in Man of Tomorrowwill allegedly have a biracial family. The rumor also states that the character might be sharing screens with Jimmy Olsen, Cat Grant, and Perry White, meaning the Daily Planet.
Of course, it isn’t confirmed, but considering the rumor, it does seem that Lillard’s character might bea bit integral to the storyline of Man of Tomorrow.
Based on James Gunn’s treatment of his original characters, it can be assumed that Matthew Lillard’s character will be someone who has importance, shares screen with other integral characters, and could potentially continue reprising his role for future DCU movies and/or shows.
However, it is still a rumor, and the only thing confirmed is that Matthew Lillard is going to be a part of Superman 2alongside David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult.
