Phantom Busters anime confirmed a 2027 broadcast, alongside its four lead voice actors and main staff this week. Based on Neo Shoco’s manga, the animation of this series is being handled by TOHO Animation Studio. The official website revealed the cast along with a teaser visual and comments from all four actors. However, a premiere date, theme songs, and episode count have not been announced yet.
On September 24, Phantom Busterscreated an official X account with the 2027 window and a commemorative illustration by Neo Shoco. The October update then added the teaser visual and the production detail before this week’s cast confirmation.
From Bakugo’s VA to Shigaraki’s, Phantom Busters anime casts industry stars as its four leads
Nobuhiko Okamoto (Bakugo in My Hero Academia) will voice Mogari Shishikuno, with Natsuki Hanae (Tanjiro in Demon Slayer) as Eugene Korekishi, Kōki Uchiyama (Tomura Shigaraki in My Hero Academia) as Kaoru Kanzaki, and Ryōta Suzuki (Ryusui Nanami in Dr. Stone: Ryusui) as Kotaro Tamon. All four voice actors expressed their elation at being part of this project.
Chika Nagaoka (Tamon’s B-Side, Uta no Prince-sama, Maji Love Kingdom) directs, and Takahiro Kishida and Rina Iwamoto handle the character designs. Absent from the update were a trailer, a series composition credit, and a music composer, and no further cast beyond the four leads was named.
The four main characters of Phantom Busters are high school students in Kamakura who form an exorcist club, according to the official synopsis. Mogari has left a strict family home for Kamakura, where he is tasked with clearing the city of spirits; Eugene is a top student with no spiritual sense; Kaoru is a manga obsessive who can see ghosts; and Tamon can talk to spirits but struggles with people.
Eight volumes in print leave Phantom Busters plenty to adapt
With eight volumes published and the manga still running in Jump SQ, thely adapts four to six volumes of a manga, which would leave a single season short of the story’s current point and room for a second; two cours would bring an adaptation close to volume eight. No format has been confirmed, and it is unclear as of yet how many episodes the series will run for
At the end of the rollout, the broadcast remains fixed only to 2027, so a specific date can be expected to follow later, as is usual for series announced more than a year ahead. Further staff and supporting cast have not been announced.
