HBO’s Harry Potter series has welcomed three new cast additions. The highly anticipated reboot continues to announce the actors who will portray the beloved characters.
Jasper Talbot and Hannah Chinn will play Harry’s parents, James and Lily Potter, respectively, in the upcoming Harry Potter series. Harry Gilby will also play Charlie Weasley, the second-oldest Weasley child.
Talbot’s previous credits include Broadchurch, while Chinn has appeared in The Conjuring: Last Rites and Malpractice. Gilby is best known for playing a young J.R.R. Tolkien in the 2019 biographical film Tolkien. He also played Aethelstan in The Last Kingdom and its film sequel, The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die.
The latest casting additions bring more of the wizarding world’s beloved families into focus
HBO’s Harry Potter series stars Dominic McLaughlin as the titular protagonist, with Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.
Recent cast additions for the series also include Bonnie Hill as Ginny Weasley. Hill will take over the role in Season 2, succeeding Gracie Cochrane, who plays Ginny in Season 1. Rafe Spall will play Arthur Weasley in Season 2, while Katherine Parkinson portrays Molly Weasley.
Other members of the Weasley family also include Tristan Harland as Fred, Gabriel Harland as George, and Ruari Spooner as Percy. The series also stars John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
The first season, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, is based on J.K. Rowling’s book of the same name. The official synopsis reads, “There is nothing special about Harry Potter — or so his Aunt Petunia tells him. But when a mysterious letter of admission to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry arrives, it opens the door to a hidden world of magic, friendship and adventure. Yet behind Hogwarts’ enchanted walls lie dark secrets. Harry must find the courage to prove himself against the darkest wizard of all.”
Harry Potter Season 1 premieres on HBO and HBO Max on December 25. HBO has already renewed the series for Season 2, which will adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
