Security researcher Sammy Hajhamid’s tethered Nintendo Switch 2 jailbreak enables file access and homebrew, prompting modding and reports of game assets and files being extracted. No full game dump has been verified, and the exploit requires a PC and stops when the console restarts.

Recently, security researcher Sammy Hajhamid, also known as pepsipu, discovered a Nintendo Switch 2 exploit (called ns2jb) that lets them jailbreak the console using AI and the backward-compatible SmileBASIC 4 coding tool for the Switch. Like other closed hardware, a jailbroken Switch 2 offers file access and the ability to run Homebrew apps, with pepsipu showcasing a modded Mario Kart World featuring Goku, Walter White, Peter Griffin, and Hatsune Miku.
It’s worth noting that this is a “tethered jailbreak” in that it’s not a full system hack, requires a PC, and only lasts until the system is rebooted. Still, news of the jailbreak has spread, and it’s even led Nintendo to remove the backward-compatible SmileBASIC 4 app from various eShop storefronts. With access to the game and system files, Sammy Hajhamid leveraged OpenAI’s Codex to vibe code the Mario Kart World mods.
Naturally, where there’s one, there’s more, and in recent days other modders and hackers have jumped in on the action. This has led to everything from 3D models being extracted from Mario Kart World to reports of game files or ROMs being dumped, including FromSoftware’s The Duskbloods and Deltarune. Right now, with access to binaries and files, hackers and modders are using it to see what they can find.
What does it take to reactivate ns2jb after a Nintendo Switch 2 reboots?
You need a PC to apply ns2jb again after the Switch 2 reboots. It is a tethered jailbreak and does not persist through a restart.
What limitations does the tethered ns2jb jailbreak place on Nintendo Switch 2 homebrew and file access?
Has Nintendo released a Switch 2 system update that blocks ns2jb?
How does removing SmileBASIC 4 from eShop storefronts affect people who already downloaded it?

Now, it’s worth noting that the current method of jailbreaking a Switch 2 hasn’t resulted in a full dump of a game being verified or means we’re going to start seeing Switch 2 games being emulated on PC, but it’s a reminder that when it comes to closed hardware like the Switch 2 or <a href="https://comicvibe.com/cozy-ps5-action-rpg-is-out-today-on-playstation-store/” title=”Cozy PS5 Action RPG Is Out Today on PlayStation Store”>PlayStation 5, it’s always a case of when rather than if when it comes to this stuff.
