Disney+ original series “The Empress of Re-marriage” has released a still from a production containing the imperial romance fantasy worldview.
“Empress of Re-marriage” is a romance fantasy epic story that takes place when the perfect empress of the Eastern Empire, “Navier” (Shin Min-ah), is notified of her divorce from the emperor “Sobiech” (Joo Ji-hoon), who is falling for a runaway slave “Lasta” (Lee Se-young), and demands approval for remarriage with the prince of the Western kingdom (Lee Jong-seok) instead of accepting it.
The released still contains spaces reflecting the characteristics and narratives of each character, including the different atmospheres of the Eastern and Western empires. The Eastern Empire expressed a rich and stable atmosphere by using warm colors and blue nature. On the other hand, the Western Kingdom differed from the Eastern Empire by focusing on its cold color and angular form. Through the spatial contrast between the two countries, the relationship and story of the characters were visually revealed.

The characteristics of each character were also reflected inside the palace. Art director Taehoon Lee said, “We have made it the most important principle to reflect each character’s character and narrative in space,” adding, “We have balanced each world so that it can be connected organically within a single story while being clearly distinguished.”
In the space of the butterfly, red and yellow colors are used and the color is gradually expressed thickly to capture the dignity and strength of the empress, and the solitude behind it. The space of Sobiech was composed mainly of blue, green, and black, emphasizing the emperor’s authority and the weight of the royal authority.
The props and costumes that make up the space also reflected the relationship and emotional changes of the characters. Director Cho Soo-won explained, “All objects were used as elements to increase the reality and immersion of the world view beyond simple decorative elements.”
In particular, Navier’s costumes depend on the characters who appear together. In the scene with Sobiech, they wear colorful and multi-colored costumes, while with Heinley, they show understated colors and soft atmosphere. Through this, the difference in relationships and emotions between characters was expressed.
The visual special effects (VFX) work also focused on realizing the fantasy world view of the original. VFX Supervisor Kim Shin-chul said, “I was the first to think about creating an overall world view, and I spent the most time.” The production team focused on composing the background and visual elements so that the characters could feel like a real living space.
In particular, ‘Queen’ studied and implemented the appearance and movement of real birds. In addition, the balance between fantasy settings and realistic expressions was achieved by considering the harmony between Heinly’s costume, hair color, and surrounding elements such as pupils.
The imperial space, character design, and VFX implemented by the production team can also be checked through the “Special Look” released on Disney+.
Meanwhile, “The Empress of Re-marriage” will be released on Disney+ on November 4th (Wednesday). After that, it will be released twice every Wednesday, consisting of a total of 10 episodes.
