Several netizens and audience members slammed Kutle Khan for beginning his performance even before Shilpa had finished her set on the stage.

Following the chaos at the 10th anniversary edition of the Bollywood Music Project (BMP) in Mumbai on Saturday, involving singer Shilpa Rao’s performance being cut short, singer Kutle Khan’s team has reacted to the backlash the singer faced after the incident.

Several netizens and audience members slammed Kutle Khan for beginning his performance even before Shilpa had finished her set on the stage. As per several reports, as Shilpa spoke from one end of the stage, Kutle Khan’s set began, and her microphone was switched off, prompting criticism from fans and attendees who felt her performance had been cut short.

However, Kutle Khan’s team has claimed that Shilpa interrupted his set to thank the audience and that his performance time had already been reduced by the organisers.

Speaking to News18, Kutle Khan’s manager said, “The festival team had allotted each artist 15-20 minutes onstage. But they chopped Khan saab’s performance time further. He was only given 10 minutes. But we were okay with it since they paid us. Shilpa finished her performance and left the stage. Once Khan saab began his set, she interrupted his performance and said that she would want to thank everyone.”

The manager further claimed that Kutle Khan paused his performance when Shilpa began addressing the audience. He also alleged that festival organiser Deepak Chaudhary instructed the singer to resume his set.

“He stopped his performance for her. Thereafter, the festival organiser, Deepak Chaudhary, came to us and told Khan saab to sing Dil Pe Zakham Khate Hain. He kept telling him ki start karo, start karo. We should instead be upset about his performance being disrupted by Shilpa. She should’ve thanked everyone at the end of her own performance. She went backstage and then came back when Khan saab was halfway through his set.”

The manager also criticised the narrative circulating on social media, alleging that a misleading account of the incident was being used to target Kutle Khan.

Explaining the scheduling issues at the festival, he said the organisers had obtained permission to hold the event for only one day this year, forcing them to accommodate all the artists within the same schedule.

He also alleged that Himesh Reshammiya’s sound check lasted three hours, resulting in delays that affected the performance slots of several artists. According to Sharad, both Shilpa Rao and Kutle Khan had their stage time reduced because of these delays.

The 10th anniversary edition of the Bollywood Music Project featured performances by several prominent artists, including Shilpa Rao, Himesh Reshammiya, Anu Malik, Hariharan, Euphoria, Roop Kumar Rathod and Neeraj Shridhar.
