Based on the manga of the same name by Naoya Matsumoto, serialized on the manga app Shonen Jump+, the series has surpassed a cumulative circulation of 20 million copies in Japan, including digital editions. Animation production is handled by Production I.G, while Studio khara is responsible for kaiju design and related work. The first season of the television anime aired in 2024, followed by the second season in 2025.

The theatrical film, which will serve as the series finale, will depict the Defense Force facing a desperate situation against evolved kaiju, the schemes of Kaiju No. 9 after absorbing Isao Shinomiya, and how Kafka, having resolved to fight as Kaiju No. 8, confronts the final battle.
