The Prince of Wales revealed that he tried his hand at being a DJ in his younger years, even bestowing himself with a different title amid his efforts.
“I went through a phase where I wanted to be a DJ, which didn’t go very well,” William admitted on the Oct. 23 episode of The Graham Norton Show. “And I came up with a name. I was called ‘DJ Xara’ with an X.”
The 44-year-old admitted “it wasn’t good,” much to the delight of his fellow red coach companions CateBlanchett, RobertIrwin and HannahWaddingham.
“DJ Zara?” Hannah asked. “That’s rubbish.”
Cate, meanwhile, was curious about the spelling, with William noting he put the “X” at the front of “Xara,” while making a crossing motion with his hands.
“And was that one of your moves?” Cate asked of the gesture, to which William quipped, “No, I didn’t do the move.”
And while he made an effort, his DJ career was short-lived, with William confessing, “I never got that good.”
But DJing wasn’t the only non-royal endeavor the future King of England pondered in his youth: He also thought he “could make a good policeman,” with Graham commenting William’s height would certainly have been an advantage.
“Exactly,” the prince laughed. “Being a policeman, I thought was quite cool.”
“I love it, the family love it,” he raved. “Charlotte and Louis are obsessed with it. It’s really good telly.”
And even a royal can be excited about meeting a celebrity (traitor), as William shared he ran into contestant RossKempfrom the most recent U.K. season after the first episode aired.
“I couldn’t help but try—in the most appropriate way—to touch him to see what reaction I got from him,” William said. “Turns out he was really jumpy!”
While it remains to be seen if DJ Xara will grace the stage again, keep reading for a look at some of William’s moments away from the turntables and with his family.
