Monster Hunter Wilds Nintendo Switch 2 tech analysis, including frame rate and resolution

    in News, Switch 2

Capcom just released a Monster Hunter Wilds Nintendo Switch 2 demo this week, and Digital Foundry was able to analyze it and obtain technical details, which cover frame rate, resolution, and more.

It looks like Capcom is coming out with another solid port. Based on the analysis, Monster Hunter Wilds also has some advantages on Nintendo Switch 2 compared to Xbox Series S.

The full roundup of tidbits is as follows:

    – Quality mode and frame rate modes available for docked play
    – Only one mode in handheld mode
    – Frame rate toggle included to lock it to FPS or have it be unlocked
    – Switch 2 has some big advantages over Xbox Series S
    – Switch 2 generally has clearer texture art than Xbox Series S
    – Switch 2 has screen space reflections whereas Xbox Series S doesn’t
    – More refined presentation and less aliasing on Switch 2, but can be more shimmery in motion
    – Resolution is 648p when docked, but upscaled
    – Some environmental features and characters have reduced or absent shadows on Switch 2
    – Some animation struggles as well, such as foliage at any kind of real distance from the player doesn’t animate, NPC/enemy animation can be decimated
    – Some models have less geometry
    – Monster Hunter Wilds frame rate is consistent 30 FPS on Switch 2
    – No frame pacing problems
    – Frame rate mode seems to bring the resolution down to 600p and drops screen space reflections
    – Frame rate mode seems to be between 40 and 55 FPS
    – Handheld mode resolution is about 432p, but upscaled
    – Handheld mode has lower resolution shadows and no screen space reflections
