Xbox Labs shows off classic Xbox 360 Blades dashboard running in a web browser

    What you need to know

Xbox Labs demonstrated classic Xbox 360 dashboards running in Microsoft Edge. A local address containing the dashboard’s Title ID suggests the demo may use emulation or translation rather than a visual recreation, aligning with Xbox Labs’ focus on browser-based gaming experiences.

Xbox is giving fans a serious dose of nostalgia. CEO Asha Sharma shared a demo of the classic Xbox 360 “Blades” dashboard running flawlessly in a web browser as part of early tests by the newly formed Xbox Labs team.

Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet originally posted the video, which included various classic 360 interfaces: the original Blades UI from 2005, the later New Xbox Experience, and the Metro-style dashboard. All of this was surprisingly working inside what seems to be Microsoft Edge.

The clip itself doesn’t appear to be a simple visual recreation. Many noticed the browser address bar pointed to a local address containing the Xbox 360 dashboard’s official Title ID (FFFE07D1). That detail suggests Microsoft may be running actual 360 software through some form of emulation or translation layer, rather than reconstructing the menus from scratch.

Xbox Labs was announced only last week as a small team charged with experimenting with new, innovative ways to play both old and new games, with a clear focus on web browsers. The company says the goal is to offer users real experiences rather than pure research demos.

How does Xbox Labs’ browser-based Blades demo connect to Microsoft’s reported plans for Xbox 360 games on PC?

The Blades demo connects to those plans as a possible early technical step, not a confirmation that Xbox 360 games are coming to PC through a browser. Its local address includes the dashboard’s official Title ID, which suggests Xbox Labs may be running actual Xbox 360 software through emulation or translation. The story says leaked plans point to Xbox 360 titles coming to PC in the years ahead, but the demo shows dashboard interfaces, not games running.

What evidence indicates the Xbox 360 Blades demo may be running software through emulation rather than recreating its interface?

Which Xbox 360 games have been mentioned in reports about Microsoft’s plans to bring the library to PC?

What differences separate the Blades, New Xbox Experience, and Metro Xbox 360 dashboards?

What makes this demo specifically intriguing is how it fits into Microsoft’s broader push to keep older Xbox libraries alive across more devices. The company has already been expanding original Xbox support on PC through the Xbox app, and leaked plans hint at Xbox 360 titles coming in the years ahead. Running the actual 360 dashboard in a browser could be the first step toward making those legendary games available without a console or a dedicated app.
