Intel’s AI GPU and Nova Lake Leaks Signal Hardware Changes

Intel’s D270 GPU brings up to 480GB of memory for AI inference as Arc drivers improve gaming performance and Nova Lake leaks emerge.

Intel is preparing updates across its AI GPU, Arc graphics drivers, and upcoming Nova Lake processors. The D270 targets AI inference, with partner configurations offering up to 480GB of memory, while a new Arc driver update reports performance improvements in several games. Meanwhile, a Nova Lake leak suggests that certain processor models could use additional cache to improve gaming performance.

Intel’s D270 GPU, previously known as Crescent Island, is designed for data centers running AI inference rather than gaming. Inference occurs when a trained model answers questions, processes documents, or powers an AI agent. Intel is targeting a key challenge for modern AI agents. They do not just respond once; they search, reason, call tools, and handle long conversations.

Intel D270 GPU Targets AI Inference With Up to 480GB Memory

That demands a lot of memory, especially when several users run models at the same time. Intel’s D270 card comes with 160GB of LPDDR5X memory, but partners can build versions with up to 480GB. That matters because the 480GB configuration isn’t standard on Intel cards. D270 uses Xe3-LP architecture with 32 Xe cores and 256 matrix engines.

Nvidia’s RTX Pro 6000 Blackwell workstation edition offers 96GB of GDDR7 memory, 1.792TB/s of bandwidth, and a maximum power rating of 600W. Even Intel’s standard 160GB card has more memory, while a 480GB partner version offers five times the capacity. However, memory capacity is not the same as speed. Nvidia lists higher memory bandwidth, and its GPU also handles professional graphics, rendering, and AI workloads.

Intel’s D270 is designed more specifically for inference. The headline AI compute figures also use different precision formats, so comparing them directly would be misleading. Intel’s approach is to keep larger models and longer context in memory, serve more requests, and operate in standard air-cooled servers. That could make the D270 useful for certain data center workloads.

Intel has another update for gamers that could improve performance without requiring new hardware. The Arc graphics driver version 32.0.101.9150 reports performance increases in several games. Intel reports up to a 31% average FPS increase in Resident Evil Requiem at 1080p medium settings. However, that result applies to Core Ultra Series 2 processors with integrated Arc graphics compared with an older driver.

Intel Nova Lake gaming performance may depend on the BFC model.

For discrete Arc B-series graphics cards, Intel reports up to 6% more FPS in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Monster Hunter Rise at 1440p high settings. Assassin’s Creed Shadows also receives performance improvements on certain integrated GPUs. These figures come from Intel, so results may vary depending on hardware and system configuration.

The update could help existing Arc graphics hardware deliver more performance through driver changes alone. However, reported gains vary by game and GPU, so the 31% figure shouldn’t be treated as a general improvement across Intel’s entire graphics lineup. The next question concerns Intel’s upcoming Nova Lake processors.

According to a Club386 leak, standard Nova Lake processors may offer gaming performance similar to Arrow Lake. If accurate, that could be disappointing for a next-generation CPU. However, one rumored exception is the so-called BFC models, which reportedly use a larger last-level cache called BLLC.
