The show premieres on October 17, 2026, on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV.
Popular singing reality show Indian Idol is set to return with a new format that will bring together some of its most memorable contestants. Titled Indian Idol Legends Return, the upcoming season will feature 24 singers from different seasons competing against one another in 12 pairs.
Produced by Fremantle, the show will premiere on October 17, 2026, and air every Saturday and Sunday at 8 PM on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV.
Singer and composer Himesh Reshammiya will return as the Superstar Judge, while Aditya Narayan will host the season.
The upcoming season will feature familiar faces, including Abhijeet Sawant, Amit Sana, Salman Ali and Sayli Kamble, among others.
Unlike previous seasons, where aspiring singers competed individually, Indian Idol Legends Return will bring experienced contestants together in pairs.
The 12 competing duos will be required to build musical chemistry and deliver performances that distinguish them from the other teams.
Adding another twist, the contestants will be evaluated not only by Himesh Reshammiya but also by their fellow competitors.
The season is built around the theme, “Sirf ek baar jeetna kaafi nahi hota, baar baar jeetna padta hai.”
‘Sirf Ek Baar Jeetna Kaafi Nahi Hota’: Himesh Reshammiya
Speaking about the upcoming season, Himesh Reshammiya said the format would challenge established singers to prove themselves once again.
“Sirf ek baar jeetna kaafi nahi hota, baar-baar jeetna padta hai. And that is what makes Indian Idol Legends Return so exciting. It brings together artists who have already proven their talent and earned their place in the world of music but must now rise to the challenge all over again,” he said.
Highlighting the competitive format, he added, “With a new competitive format, every performance becomes an opportunity to push boundaries, win hearts and prove their mettle once more. This season is not just about celebrating the voices that have shaped Indian Idol’s legacy, but also about witnessing their determination to win and their ability to surprise us all over again.”
Sony Entertainment Television Calls It The Biggest Indian Idol Season
Harsh Sheth, Business Head of Sony Entertainment Television, said the new season aims to combine nostalgia with a fresh musical competition.
“Indian Idol has always been about discovering extraordinary voices and creating moments that stay with audiences. With Indian Idol Legends Return, we’re taking that legacy to an entirely new level by bringing some of the most iconic voices discovered on the show back into the spotlight, this time to compete in a blockbuster season,” he said.
Sheth also expressed confidence that the combination of familiar contestants and Himesh’s return would appeal to viewers.
“We believe this unique combination of iconic talent, fierce competition and star power will make Indian Idol Legends Return the biggest season ever, creating spectacular musical moments and giving audiences plenty to celebrate,” he added.
Indian Idol Legends Return Introduces Duet Competition Format
Aradhana Bhola, Managing Director of Fremantle, described the duet format as a first in the history of the franchise worldwide.
“Marrying the gold of iconic Idol fandom with the newness of all out duet performances for the first time ever in the history of the format worldwide, Indian Idol Legends Return is setting its own bar,” she said.
